“‘ Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.

“‘ Do not try to get even. Do not hold anything against any of your people. Instead, love your neighbor as you love yourself. I am the Lord.

For the commandments,“ Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not covet,”( and if there is any other commandment) are summed up in this,“ Love your neighbor as yourself.”

For the whole law can be summed up in a single commandment, namely,“ You must love your neighbor as yourself.”

But if you fulfill the royal law as expressed in this scripture,“ You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well.

The second is like it:‘ Love your neighbor as yourself.’All the law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.”

The second is:‘ Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”The expert in the law said to him,“ That is true, Teacher; you are right to say that he is one, and there is no one else besides him.And to love him with all your heart, with all your mind, and with all your strength and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”When Jesus saw that he had answered thoughtfully, he said to him,“ You are not far from the kingdom of God.” Then no one dared any longer to question him.

The expert answered,“ Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.”Jesus said to him,“ You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.”But the expert, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus,“ And who is my neighbor?”Jesus replied,“ A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell into the hands of robbers, who stripped him, beat him up, and went off, leaving him half dead.Now by chance a priest was going down that road, but when he saw the injured man he passed by on the other side.So too a Levite, when he came up to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.But a Samaritan who was traveling came to where the injured man was, and when he saw him, he felt compassion for him.He went up to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper, saying,‘ Take care of him, and whatever else you spend, I will repay you when I come back this way.’Which of these three do you think became a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?”The expert in religious law said,“ The one who showed mercy to him.” So Jesus said to him,“ Go and do the same.”

honor your father and mother, and love your neighbor as yourself.”

Do not avenge yourselves, dear friends, but give place to God’s wrath, for it is written,“ Vengeance is mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.

“ You have heard that it was said,‘ Love your neighbor’ and‘ hate your enemy.’But I say to you, love your enemy and pray for those who persecute you,

“ If you encounter your enemy’s ox or donkey wandering off, you must by all means return it to him.If you see the donkey of someone who hates you fallen under its load, you must not ignore him, but be sure to help him with it.

Now someone came up to him and said,“ Teacher, what good thing must I do to gain eternal life?”

for it is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be in fear, for it does not bear the sword in vain. It is God’s servant to administer retribution on the wrongdoer.

Absalom instructed his servants,“ Look! When Amnon is drunk and I say to you,‘ Strike Amnon down,’ kill him then and there. Don’t fear! Is it not I who have given you these instructions? Be strong and courageous!”

Do not repay anyone evil for evil; consider what is good before all people.

Do not say,“ I will pay back evil!” Wait for the LORD, so that he may vindicate you.

The sword will make people childless outside, and terror will do so inside; they will destroy both the young man and the virgin, the infant and the gray-haired man.

You must put away every kind of bitterness, anger, wrath, quarreling, and evil, slanderous talk.

But now, put off all such things as anger, rage, malice, slander, abusive language from your mouth.

For we know the one who said,“ Vengeance is mine, I will repay,” and again,“ The Lord will judge his people.”

idolatry, sorcery, hostilities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish rivalries, dissensions, factions,

So get rid of all evil and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander.

But Absalom said nothing to Amnon, either bad or good, yet Absalom hated Amnon because he had humiliated his sister Tamar.

He does not always accuse, and does not stay angry.
