耶穌快到耶路撒冷的時候，看見那城，就為她哭泣，說：「巴不得你在這日子裡明白關乎你和平的事，但如今這事在你眼前被隱藏了。因為日子將臨到你，你的敵人要築起壁壘包圍你，四面困住你。而且，他們要將你和你裡面的兒女猛摔在地，不容你裡面有一塊石頭留在另一塊石頭上，因為你沒有認出神臨到你的時候。」

大衛和他的部下回到那城，看哪，城已經被火燒毀，他們的妻子、兒女都被擄走了。大衛和隨同他的人就放聲大哭，直哭到沒有力氣。

因為如果那少年沒有與我在一起，我怎能上到我父親那裡去呢？恐怕我看見禍患臨到我父親。」
