You led us into a trap; you caused us to suffer.

For my days go up in smoke, and my bones are charred like a fireplace.My heart is parched and withered like grass, for I am unable to eat food.Because of the anxiety that makes me groan, my bones protrude from my skin.

I said,“ Oh, the feeling in the pit of my stomach! I writhe in anguish. Oh, the pain in my heart! My heart pounds within me. I cannot keep silent. For I hear the sound of the trumpet; the sound of the battle cry pierces my soul!I see one destruction after another taking place, so that the whole land lies in ruins. I see our tents suddenly destroyed, their curtains torn down in a mere instant.“ How long must I see the enemy’s battle flags and hear the military signals of their bugles?”The LORD answered,“ This will happen because my people are foolish. They do not know me. They are like children who have no sense. They have no understanding. They are skilled at doing evil. They do not know how to do good.”“ I looked at the land and saw that it was an empty wasteland. I looked up at the sky, and its light had vanished.I looked at the mountains and saw that they were shaking. All the hills were swaying back and forth!I looked and saw that there were no more people, and that all the birds in the sky had flown away.I looked and saw that the fruitful land had become a desert and that all of the cities had been laid in ruins. The LORD had brought this all about because of his blazing anger.All this will happen because the LORD said,“ The whole land will be desolate; however, I will not completely destroy it.Because of this the land will mourn and the sky above will grow black. For I have made my purpose known and I will not relent or turn back from carrying it out.”At the sound of the approaching horsemen and archers the people of every town will flee. Some of them will hide in the thickets. Others will climb up among the rocks. All the cities will be deserted. No one will remain in them.

Among those nations you will have no rest nor will there be a place of peaceful rest for the soles of your feet, for there the LORD will give you an anxious heart, failing eyesight, and a spirit of despair.

In fierce anger he destroyed the whole army of Israel. He withdrew his right hand as the enemy attacked. He was like a raging fire in the land of Jacob; it consumed everything around it.ד( Dalet)He prepared his bow like an enemy; his right hand was ready to shoot. Like a foe he killed everyone, even our strong young men; he has poured out his anger like fire on the tent of Daughter Zion.ה( He)

Because of this, our hearts are sick; because of these things, we can hardly see through our tears.

So my anger and my wrath were poured out and burned like a fire through the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem. That is why they have become the desolate ruins that they are today.’

They have made me jealous with false gods, enraging me with their worthless gods; so I will make them jealous with a people they do not recognize, with a nation slow to learn I will enrage them.For a fire has been kindled by my anger, and it burns to lowest Sheol; it consumes the earth and its produce, and ignites the foundations of the mountains.I will increase their disasters, I will use up my arrows on them.They will be starved by famine, eaten by plague, and bitterly stung; I will send the teeth of wild animals against them, along with the poison of creatures that crawl in the dust.The sword will make people childless outside, and terror will do so inside; they will destroy both the young man and the virgin, the infant and the gray-haired man.

Our eyes continually failed us as we looked in vain for help. From our watchtowers we watched for a nation that could not rescue us.צ( Tsade)Our enemies hunted us down at every step so that we could not walk about in our streets. Our end drew near, our days were numbered, for our end had come!ק( Qof)Those who pursued us were swifter than eagles in the sky. May those who seek my life be embarrassed and humiliated! May those who plan to harm me be turned back and ashamed!

May those who are trying to take my life be embarrassed and ashamed! May those who want to harm me be turned back and ashamed!May those who say,“ Aha! Aha!” be driven back and disgraced!

Let all their wickedness come before you; afflict them just as you have afflicted me because of all my acts of rebellion. For my groans are many, and my heart is sick with sorrow.

With flaming fire he will mete out punishment on those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
