Then Joshua summoned the Gibeonites and said,“ Why did you deceive us by saying,‘ We live a long way from you,’ while actually you live near us?

Joshua sent for the people of Gibeon. He said to them,“ Why did you trick us? You said,‘ We live far away from you.’ But in fact you live close to us.

Joshua summoned them, and he said to them,“ Why did you deceive us, saying,‘ We are very far from you,’ when you dwell among us?

Joshua called together the Gibeonites and said,“ Why did you lie to us? Why did you say that you live in a distant land when you live right here among us?

Joshua summoned the Gibeonites and said to them,“ Why did you deceive us by telling us you live far away from us, when in fact you live among us?

Then Joshua called for them and spoke to them, saying,“ Why have you deceived us, saying,‘ We are very far from you,’ when you are living within our land?

Then Joshua called for them, and he spoke to them, saying,“ Why have you deceived us, saying,‘ We are very far from you,’ when you dwell near us?

And Joshua called for them, and he spake unto them, saying, Wherefore have ye beguiled us, saying, We are very far from you; when ye dwell among us?

Joshua summoned the Gibeonites and said to them,“ Why did you deceive us by telling us you live far away from us, when in fact you live among us?

Joshua summoned the Gibeonites and said to them,“ Why did you trick us by saying,‘ We live far away from you,’ when you really live nearby?

Joshua called for them, and he spoke to them, saying,“ Why have you deceived us, saying,‘ We are very far from you,’ when you live among us?

Then they went to Joshua in the camp at Gilgal and said to him and the Israelites,“ We have come from a distant country; make a treaty with us.” (niv)

Three days after they made the treaty with the Gibeonites, the Israelites heard that they were neighbors, living near them. (niv)

When morning came, there was Leah! So Jacob said to Laban,“ What is this you have done to me? I served you for Rachel, didn’t I? Why have you deceived me?” (niv)

They answered:“ Your servants have come from a very distant country because of the fame of the Lord your God. For we have heard reports of him: all that he did in Egypt,and all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites east of the Jordan— Sihon king of Heshbon, and Og king of Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth. (niv)

Esau held a grudge against Jacob because of the blessing his father had given him. He said to himself,“ The days of mourning for my father are near; then I will kill my brother Jacob.”When Rebekah was told what her older son Esau had said, she sent for her younger son Jacob and said to him,“ Your brother Esau is planning to avenge himself by killing you.Now then, my son, do what I say: Flee at once to my brother Laban in Harran.Stay with him for a while until your brother’s fury subsides.When your brother is no longer angry with you and forgets what you did to him, I’ll send word for you to come back from there. Why should I lose both of you in one day?” (niv)

Then the Lord God said to the woman,“ What is this you have done?” The woman said,“ The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”So the Lord God said to the serpent,“ Because you have done this,“ Cursed are you above all livestock and all wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life. (niv)

But he said,“ Your brother came deceitfully and took your blessing.”Esau said,“ Isn’t he rightly named Jacob? This is the second time he has taken advantage of me: He took my birthright, and now he’s taken my blessing!” Then he asked,“ Haven’t you reserved any blessing for me?” (niv)

But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. (niv)
