Then Joshua summoned the Gibeonites and said,“ Why did you deceive us by saying,‘ We live a long way from you,’ while actually you live near us?

Joshua sent for the people of Gibeon. He said to them,“ Why did you trick us? You said,‘ We live far away from you.’ But in fact you live close to us.

Joshua summoned them, and he said to them,“ Why did you deceive us, saying,‘ We are very far from you,’ when you dwell among us?

Joshua called together the Gibeonites and said,“ Why did you lie to us? Why did you say that you live in a distant land when you live right here among us?

到吉甲營去見約書亞。他們對約書亞和以色列人說：「我們從很遠的地方來求你們跟我們締結盟約。」

立約三天後，以色列人才發現他們原來就住在附近。

第二天早上，雅各才發現娶的是利亞，就對拉班說：「你對我做的是什麼事啊！我服侍你不就是為了拉結嗎？你為什麼騙我？」

他們答道：「僕人們從很遠的地方來。我們聽說了你的上帝耶和華的威名，聽說了祂在埃及的一切作為，以及祂怎樣對付約旦河東的兩個亞摩利王——希實本王西宏和亞斯她錄的巴珊王噩。

以掃因為父親把祝福給了雅各，就對雅各懷恨在心，暗自思量說：「父親已經不久人世，他死後，我要把雅各殺掉！」以掃的計謀傳到利百加耳中。她就派人把雅各叫來，對他說：「你哥哥以掃想要殺你洩憤！孩子，聽我的話，現在就逃到哈蘭你舅舅拉班那裡，與他住些日子，一直住到你哥哥的氣消了。等他氣消了，忘了你對他所做的事，我會派人接你回來。我何必在一天之內失去你們兩個呢？」

耶和華上帝對女人說：「你這做的是什麼事？」女人說：「是蛇誘騙我，我才吃的。」耶和華上帝對蛇說：「你既然做了這事，你要比一切的牲畜和野獸受更重的咒詛，你要用肚子爬行，一生都要吃塵土。

以撒說：「你弟弟已經用詭計把你的福分奪去了。」以掃說：「怪不得他叫雅各，他已經騙了我兩次，先前把我長子的名分奪去，現在又奪去我的福分！」接著他對父親說：「難道你沒有留下別的祝福可以給我嗎？」

但我真怕你們會像被狡猾的蛇欺騙的夏娃一樣，思想受迷惑，失去了對基督純真專一的心。
