Then Joshua summoned the Gibeonites and said,“ Why did you deceive us by saying,‘ We live a long way from you,’ while actually you live near us?

Joshua sent for the people of Gibeon. He said to them,“ Why did you trick us? You said,‘ We live far away from you.’ But in fact you live close to us.

Joshua summoned them, and he said to them,“ Why did you deceive us, saying,‘ We are very far from you,’ when you dwell among us?

Joshua called together the Gibeonites and said,“ Why did you lie to us? Why did you say that you live in a distant land when you live right here among us?

到吉甲营去见约书亚。他们对约书亚和以色列人说：“我们从很远的地方来求你们跟我们缔结盟约。”

立约三天后，以色列人才发现他们原来就住在附近。

第二天早上，雅各才发现娶的是利亚，就对拉班说：“你对我做的是什么事啊！我服侍你不就是为了拉结吗？你为什么骗我？”

他们答道：“仆人们从很远的地方来。我们听说了你的上帝耶和华的威名，听说了祂在埃及的一切作为，以及祂怎样对付约旦河东的两个亚摩利王——希实本王西宏和亚斯她录的巴珊王噩。

以扫因为父亲把祝福给了雅各，就对雅各怀恨在心，暗自思量说：“父亲已经不久人世，他死后，我要把雅各杀掉！”以扫的计谋传到利百加耳中。她就派人把雅各叫来，对他说：“你哥哥以扫想要杀你泄愤！孩子，听我的话，现在就逃到哈兰你舅舅拉班那里，与他住些日子，一直住到你哥哥的气消了。等他气消了，忘了你对他所做的事，我会派人接你回来。我何必在一天之内失去你们两个呢？”

耶和华上帝对女人说：“你这做的是什么事？”女人说：“是蛇诱骗我，我才吃的。”耶和华上帝对蛇说：“你既然做了这事，你要比一切的牲畜和野兽受更重的咒诅，你要用肚子爬行，一生都要吃尘土。

以撒说：“你弟弟已经用诡计把你的福分夺去了。”以扫说：“怪不得他叫雅各，他已经骗了我两次，先前把我长子的名分夺去，现在又夺去我的福分！”接着他对父亲说：“难道你没有留下别的祝福可以给我吗？”

但我真怕你们会像被狡猾的蛇欺骗的夏娃一样，思想受迷惑，失去了对基督纯真专一的心。
