利百加的奶媽底波拉死了，葬在伯特利下邊的橡樹下；那棵樹名叫亞倫‧巴古。

雅各清早起來，拿起枕在頭下的石頭，立作柱子，澆油在上面。他給那地方起名叫伯特利；那地方原先名叫路斯。雅各許願說：「神若與我同在，在我所行的路上保佑我，給我食物吃，衣服穿，使我平平安安回到我父親的家，我就必以耶和華為我的神。我所立為柱子的這塊石頭必作神的殿；凡你所賜給我的，我必將十分之一獻給你。」

當摩西把這律法的話寫完在書上，到完成的時候，摩西吩咐抬耶和華約櫃的利未人說：「把這律法書拿來，放在耶和華－你們神的約櫃旁，可以在那裏作指責你們的見證。

吩咐他們說：『你們從這裏，從約旦河中祭司的腳穩穩站立的地方，取十二塊石頭，一起帶過去，放在你們今夜住宿的地方。』」於是約書亞召集了他從以色列人中所選的十二個人，每支派一人。約書亞對他們說：「你們要過去，到約旦河中，耶和華－你們神的約櫃前面，按以色列人支派的數目，每人各取一塊石頭扛在肩上。這些石頭在你們中間將成為記號。日後，你們的子孫問你們說：『這些石頭對你們有甚麼意思呢？』你們就對他們說：『這是因為約旦河的水在耶和華的約櫃前中斷；約櫃過約旦河的時候，約旦河的水就中斷了。這些石頭要作以色列人永遠的紀念。』」以色列人就照約書亞所吩咐的做了。他們按以色列人支派的數目，從約旦河中取了十二塊石頭，正如耶和華所吩咐約書亞的。他們把石頭帶過去，到他們所住宿的地方，就放在那裏。約書亞另外把十二塊石頭立在約旦河的中間，在抬約櫃祭司的腳站立的地方；直到今日，石頭還在那裏。
