利伯加的奶媽底波拉死了，埋葬在伯特利下邊聖橡樹底下；那棵樹名叫亞倫巴古。

雅各清早起來，拿放在頭底下的石頭立為聖柱，澆油在那上頭。就給那地方起名叫伯特利；那城的名字原來叫做路斯。雅各許願說：『上帝如果與我同在，在我所走的這路上保護我，給我食物喫、衣服穿，使我安安然然回到我父親家裏，永恆主就必做我的上帝，我所立為聖柱的這根石頭就必做上帝的殿；凡你所賜給我的、我必將十分之一獻與你。』

摩西將「這律法」的話在書上寫完了；寫到儘末了，摩西就吩咐抬永恆主約櫃的利未人說：『你們要將「這律法」書放在永恆主你們的上帝的約櫃旁，好讓它在那裏做見證指責你們的不對。

要吩咐他們說：「你們要從這裏、從約但河中間、祭司們的腳站着的地方、拿起十二塊石頭來，帶過去，放在你們今夜要住宿的地方。』於是約書亞將他從以色列人中所豫備的那十二個人、各族派一人、各族派一人、都召了來。約書亞對他們說：『你們要過去、到約但河中，在永恆主你們的上帝的櫃前面，按着以色列人十二族派的數目，每人把一塊石頭扛在肩膀上，這石頭好在你們中間做記號；日後你們的子孫若問說：「這些石頭對於你們有甚麼意思？」你們就可以對他們說：「是因為約但河的水從永恆主的約櫃前面截斷了；當櫃過約但河的時候，約但河的水截斷了，故此這些石頭要給以色列人做記念物、直到永遠。」』以色列人就照約書亞所吩咐的這樣去行；他們照永恆主所告訴約書亞的、按以色列人族派的數目、從約但河中間、拿起十二塊石頭來，帶着過河，到住宿的地方，就放在那裏。約書亞把十二塊石頭立在約但河中間，在抬約櫃的祭司的腳站立的地方；直到今日、那些石頭還在那裏。
