但你们现在却背弃了拯救你们脱离一切灾难和困苦的上帝，竟然对祂说，‘我们要你立一位王来统治我们。’所以你们现在就按着支派宗族站在耶和华面前吧！”

罗波安前往示剑，因为以色列人都去了那里，要立他为王。

于是我立刻派人去请你。你能来，真是荣幸，现在我们都在上帝面前，想聆听主吩咐你传给我们的话。”

亚伯兰继续前行，来到示剑的摩利橡树那里。当时迦南人住在那地方。

从百姓中挑选有才干的人，委派他们做千夫长、百夫长、五十夫长和十夫长管理百姓。他们负责随时审理百姓的事，遇到难断的案件就呈到摩西那里，自己则审理普通的事。

耶路·巴力的儿子亚比米勒去示剑的舅舅家，对外祖父全家说：“请你们去问示剑人，耶路·巴力的七十个儿子统治他们好呢，还是一个人统治他们好呢？别忘记我是你们的骨肉至亲。”他们便将他的话转告示剑人。示剑人因为亚比米勒是他们的亲戚，都拥护他，

这样，雅各从巴旦·亚兰平安地回到迦南的示剑城，在城外搭营居住。他搭营居住的这块地是他用一百块银子向示剑的父亲哈抹的子孙买的。

他们把所有外族的神像和自己的耳环都交给雅各，雅各把这些东西埋在示剑的橡树下。
