When they came to Geliloth near the Jordan in the land of Canaan, the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh built an imposing altar there by the Jordan.

The tribes of Reuben and Gad and half of the tribe of Manasseh came to Geliloth. It was near the Jordan River in the land of Canaan. They built a large altar there by the Jordan.

And when they came to the region of the Jordan that is in the land of Canaan, the people of Reuben and the people of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh built there an altar by the Jordan, an altar of imposing size.

But while they were still in Canaan, and when they came to a place called Geliloth near the Jordan River, the men of Reuben, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh stopped to build a large and imposing altar.

流本人和迦得人啊，耶和華定了約旦河作我們和你們中間的疆界；你們與耶和華無分了。’這樣，你們的子孫就使我們的子孫不再敬畏耶和華了。“因此我們說：‘我們築一座壇吧，不是為了獻燔祭，也不是為了獻別的祭，而是為了在你們和我們中間，也在我們的後代中間作證據，使我們也可以在耶和華面前用燔祭、別的祭和平安祭事奉耶和華，免得你們的子孫將來對我們的子孫說：你們與耶和華無分了。’因此我們說：‘將來有人對我們，或是對我們的後代這樣說，我們就可以回答：你們看我們列祖所築的壇，是耶和華的祭壇的模式，這並不是用來獻燔祭，也不是用來獻別的祭，而是在我們和你們中間作證據。’

雅各又對自己的眾兄弟說：“你們把石頭堆聚起來。”他們就把石頭拿來，堆成了一堆。他們又在石堆旁邊吃喝。拉班稱那石堆為伊迦爾．撒哈杜他，雅各卻稱那石堆為迦累得。拉班說：“今天這堆石頭是你我之間的證據。”因此它名叫迦累得，又名叫米斯巴，因為拉班說：“我們彼此分離以後，願耶和華在你我中間鑒察。你若苦待我的女兒，或在我的女兒以外，另娶妻子，雖然沒有人在我們中間作證，但你要注意，神就是你我之間的見證人。”拉班又對雅各說：“你看這堆石頭，看我在你我之間所豎立的石柱。這堆石頭就是證據，這石柱也是證據：我決不越過這石堆到你那裡去，你也決不可越過這石堆和石柱，到我這裡來害我。

約書亞對他們說：“你們走到約旦河中間，在耶和華你們的神的約櫃前面，按著以色列十二支派的數目，每人拿起一塊石頭，扛在自己的肩上；這可以在你們中間作記號；如果日後你們的子孫問你們，說：‘這些石頭對你們有甚麼意思？’你們就可以告訴他們：‘這是因為約旦河的水在耶和華的約櫃前被截斷了；約櫃過約旦河的時候，約旦河的水被截斷了。所以這些石頭要給以色列人作記念，直到永遠。’”以色列人就照著約書亞吩咐的行了；他們照著耶和華吩咐約書亞的，按著以色列十二支派的數目，從約旦河中間取了十二塊石頭，把它們帶過去，到他們住宿的地方，就放在那裡。約書亞又在約旦河中間，在抬約櫃的祭司的腳所站的地方，豎立十二塊石頭；那些石頭到今日還在那裡。
