And the men said to her,“ We shall be exempt from this oath to you which you have made us swear,

二人對她說：「要讓我們信守誓言，你必須這樣做，

他們二人對她說：“如果你不遵照我們的話行，你叫我們起的誓就與我們無關了。

二人就對她說：『以下這幾件事你總要行，不然、你叫我們起的誓就與我們無干了。

二人曰、爾使我所發之誓、我必守之而無咎、

二人曰、爾既用絳索以縋我、必以此索、仍繫於牖、集爾父母兄弟戚屬、至於斯室、厥後我儕至斯土、則爾使我所發之誓、我必恪守。

二人對曰、爾使我所發之誓、我必守之而不失信、

Now the men had said to her,“ This oath you made us swear will not be binding on us

The spies had said to her,“ You made us give our word. But we won’t keep our promise

The men said to her,“ We will be guiltless with respect to this oath of yours that you have made us swear.

Before they left, the men told her,“ We will be bound by the oath we have taken only if you follow these instructions.

The men said to her,“ We will be free from this oath you made us swear,

So the men said to her:“ We will be blameless of this oath of yours which you have made us swear,

And the men said unto her, We will be guiltless of this thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.

The men said to her,“ We will be free from this oath you made us swear,

And the men said unto her, We[ will be] blameless of this thine oath which thou hast made us swear.

The men said to her,“ We are not bound by this oath you made us swear unless the following conditions are met:

The men said to her,“ We will be guiltless of this your oath which you’ve made us to swear.

‘ You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie to one another.And you shall not swear falsely by My name, so as to profane the name of your God; I am the Lord.

If a man makes a vow to the Lord, or takes an oath to put himself under a binding obligation, he shall not break his word; he shall act in accordance with everything that comes out of his mouth.

But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, because of the oath of the Lord which was between them, between David and Saul’s son Jonathan.

Now there was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year; and David sought the presence of the Lord. And the Lord said,“ It is because of Saul and his bloody house, because he put the Gibeonites to death.”So the king called the Gibeonites and spoke to them( now the Gibeonites were not of the sons of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites, and the sons of Israel had made a covenant with them, but Saul had sought to kill them in his zeal for the sons of Israel and Judah).

But if you tell this business of ours, then we shall be exempt from the oath which you have made us swear.”

“ You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain.

and I will make you swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and the God of earth, that you shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I live;but you will go to my country and to my relatives, and take a wife for my son Isaac.”The servant said to him,“ Suppose the woman is not willing to follow me to this land; should I take your son back to the land from where you came?”Then Abraham said to him,“ Beware that you do not take my son back there!The Lord, the God of heaven, who took me from my father’s house and from the land of my birth, and who spoke to me and who swore to me, saying,‘ To your descendants I will give this land’— He will send His angel ahead of you, and you will take a wife for my son from there.But if the woman is not willing to follow you, then you will be free of this oath of mine; only do not take my son back there.”
