Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon. He ruled from Aroer on the rim of the Arnon Gorge— from the middle of the gorge— to the Jabbok River, which is the border of the Ammonites. This included half of Gilead.

They took over the land of Sihon. He was the king of the Amorites. He ruled in Heshbon. The land he ruled over begins at Aroer. Aroer is on the rim of the Arnon River valley. Sihon ruled from the middle of the valley to the Jabbok River. The Jabbok is the border of Ammon. Sihon’s territory included half of Gilead.

耶和华说，‘起来穿过亚嫩谷，我已将亚摩利人希实本王西宏和他的土地交在你手中，你要攻打他，占领他的土地。从今天起，我要使天下万民在你面前惊恐万状，一听到你的名字就吓得发抖。’“于是，我从基底莫旷野派使者去见希实本王西宏，提出和平的建议，说，‘请允许我们从贵国经过，我们只走大路，不会偏离。我们吃的喝的，都会按价向你买，只求让我们借道经过，就像西珥的以东人和亚珥的摩押人那样对待我们。我们只想过约旦河，去我们的上帝耶和华所赐之地。’希实本王西宏却拒绝我们的请求，因为我们的上帝耶和华使他顽固不化，好让我们击败他，正如今日的情形。耶和华对我说，‘看啊，我已把西宏和他的土地交给你了，去占领那里，夺取他的土地吧。’西宏率领全军在雅杂与我们交战。我们的上帝耶和华使西宏父子及其军队败在我们手下，全军覆没。我们攻占了西宏的所有城邑，将其夷为平地，杀光城中的男女老幼，一个不留，只留下牲畜和财物作战利品。从亚嫩谷边的亚罗珥和谷中的城，直到基列的所有城邑全被我们攻克，我们的上帝耶和华把这一切都交给了我们。我们遵照我们的上帝耶和华的吩咐，没有侵犯亚扪人的土地，即雅博河一带和山区的城邑。

像对付希实本王西宏一样，我们将这些城邑夷为平地，城中的男女老幼一个不留，只留下牲畜和财物作战利品。于是，我们攻占了约旦河东两个亚摩利王的土地，从亚嫩谷一直到黑门山——西顿人称黑门山为西连，亚摩利人称之为示尼珥——攻占了高原的城邑、整个基列和巴珊，远至巴珊王噩的城邑撒迦和以得来。巴珊王噩是最后一个利乏音人。他的床是铁做的，存放在亚扪人的拉巴城，长四米，宽一点八米。“我们占领了这片土地后，我把亚嫩谷边的亚罗珥以北地区和基列山区的一半及其城邑，分给吕便支派和迦得支派，把基列山区的另一半，以及噩的王国巴珊全境——整个亚珥歌伯分给玛拿西半个支派。巴珊地区又被称为利乏音人之地。玛拿西的子孙雅珥得到亚珥歌伯全境，远至基述人和玛迦人的边界。他按自己的名字给那地方取名叫哈倭特·雅珥，沿用至今。我又把基列分给玛吉，把从基列到亚嫩谷，以谷中央为界，远至亚扪人的边界雅博河地区分给吕便支派和迦得支派。我还把亚拉巴，就是以约旦河为界，从基尼烈直到东面毗斯迦山脚的亚拉巴海，即盐海地区给了他们。
