原来耶和华使他们心里刚硬，跟以色列人作战，好让他们遭受无情的毁灭，正如耶和华对摩西的吩咐。

因为耶和华的意思是要使他们心里刚硬，来与以色列人争战，好叫他们尽被杀灭，不蒙怜悯，正如耶和华所吩咐摩西的。

For it was the Lord himself who hardened their hearts to wage war against Israel, so that he might destroy them totally, exterminating them without mercy, as the Lord had commanded Moses.

The Lord himself made their people stubborn. He made them go to war against Israel so he could totally destroy them. He wanted to wipe them out. He didn’t show them any mercy. The Lord had commanded Moses to destroy the Canaanites.

For it was the Lord’s doing to harden their hearts that they should come against Israel in battle, in order that they should be devoted to destruction and should receive no mercy but be destroyed, just as the Lord commanded Moses.

For the Lord hardened their hearts and caused them to fight the Israelites. So they were completely destroyed without mercy, as the Lord had commanded Moses.

耶和华对摩西说：“你到了埃及，见到法老的时候，务要照我赐给你的能力在法老面前行神迹。但我要使他的心刚硬，他必不让百姓离开。

你们的上帝耶和华将把你们附近各族的城邑赐给你们，你们要将里面有气息的全部消灭。要遵照你们的上帝耶和华的吩咐，彻底灭绝赫人、亚摩利人、迦南人、比利洗人、希未人和耶布斯人，

你们必须灭绝你们的上帝耶和华交在你们手里的各族，不可怜悯他们，不可拜他们的神明，因为那样会使你们陷入网罗。

约书亚攻占了诸王所有的城池，擒获诸王。他照耶和华的仆人摩西的吩咐，将诸王全部杀死，毁掉城池。以色列人只烧毁了夏琐，没有烧建在山丘上的其他城池。他们杀掉城内所有的居民，一个没留，掳掠了城内所有的财物和牲畜。耶和华怎样吩咐祂的仆人摩西，摩西也怎样吩咐约书亚，约书亚都一一照办，没有遗漏任何耶和华吩咐摩西的事。

倘若上帝要显示祂的烈怒和权能，就尽量容忍那些祂预备要毁灭的器皿，以便在那些祂怜悯并预备赐予荣耀的器皿上彰显祂丰盛的荣耀，这难道不可以吗？

我让你活到现在，是为了向你彰显我的权能，使我的名传遍天下。

希实本王西宏却拒绝我们的请求，因为我们的上帝耶和华使他顽固不化，好让我们击败他，正如今日的情形。

我要使埃及人的心刚硬，他们会紧追不舍，跟着你们走进海底。我要在法老及其大军、战车和骑兵身上得到荣耀。

他的父母不知道这事是出于耶和华的旨意，祂要找机会对付非利士人。那时，非利士人统治着以色列。

祂说：“你去告诉以色列人，“‘你们听了又听，却不明白；看了又看，却不领悟。’要让这些人心灵麻木，耳朵发背，眼睛昏花，免得他们眼睛看见，耳朵听见，心里明白，回心转意，就得到医治。”

耶和华说，‘谁愿意去引诱亚哈到基列的拉末去送死呢？’众天军议论纷纷。后来，有一个灵站出来对耶和华说他愿意去。耶和华问他用什么方法，他说，‘我要做谎言之灵，进入他众先知的口中。’耶和华说，‘你必能成功，就这样做吧。’现在，耶和华已经把谎言之灵放进这些先知口中，耶和华已决意降祸给你。”

先知的话还没有说完，王就打断他，说：“住口！谁立你做王的谋士了？你要自取灭亡吗？”先知停了一下，又说：“我知道上帝已定意要毁灭你，因为你做了这事，不听我的忠告。”

人若得罪了别人，有上帝为他们调解。但人若得罪了耶和华，谁能为他调解呢？”然而，他们不肯听从父亲的话，因为耶和华决意要杀他们。

王不听民众的请求。这事是出于耶和华的旨意，为要应验祂借示罗人亚希雅先知对尼八的儿子耶罗波安说的话。
