是照着耶和华的仆人摩西吩咐以色列人的，照着摩西律法书上所写的，用未经过铁器打凿的整块石块筑成的一座祭坛；在这祭坛之上，众人向耶和华献燔祭，也献平安祭。

在那天，约书亚占领了玛基大，用刀击杀了那城的人和那城的王，把城中所有的人完全毁灭，不容一人逃脱；他对待玛基大王就像对待耶利哥王一样。

耶和华在摩押平原约旦河边，耶利哥对面对摩西说：“你要吩咐以色列说：‘你们过约旦河到了迦南地的时候，就要把所有的居民从你们面前赶出去，毁坏他们的一切雕像，以及一切铸像，又拆毁他们的一切邱坛。你们要占领那地，住在那里，因为我已经把那地赐给你们作产业。

你们占领了城以后，就要放火烧城；要照着耶和华的话行事；你们要谨慎，我已经吩咐你们了。”

他们回答约书亚，说：“因为你的仆人确实地听见，耶和华你的神曾经吩咐他的仆人摩西，要把这整片土地赐给你们，并且要在你们面前把这地上所有的居民都消灭，因此，我们因你们的缘故，很怕丧命，才行了这事。

耶和华把拉吉交在以色列人手里，第二天约书亚就占领了拉吉，用刀攻击那城，杀了城中所有的人，跟他对立拿所行的一切一样。

那一天，他们占领了这城，用刀攻击那城，杀了城中所有的人；那一天约书亚把他们完全毁灭，跟他对拉吉所行的一切一样。
