They answered Joshua,“ Because it was told to your servants for a certainty that the Lord your God had commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you— so we feared greatly for our lives because of you and did this thing.

The seventh lot came out for the tribe of the people of Dan, according to their clans.And the territory of its inheritance included Zorah, Eshtaol, Ir-shemesh,Shaalabbin, Aijalon, Ithlah,Elon, Timnah, Ekron,Eltekeh, Gibbethon, Baalath,Jehud, Bene-berak, Gath-rimmon,and Me-jarkon and Rakkon with the territory over against Joppa.When the territory of the people of Dan was lost to them, the people of Dan went up and fought against Leshem, and after capturing it and striking it with the sword they took possession of it and settled in it, calling Leshem, Dan, after the name of Dan their ancestor.This is the inheritance of the tribe of the people of Dan, according to their clans— these cities with their villages.

And I will set your border from the Red Sea to the Sea of the Philistines, and from the wilderness to the Euphrates, for I will give the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you.You shall make no covenant with them and their gods.They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against me; for if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you.”

and captured it and struck it with the edge of the sword, and its king and its towns, and every person in it. He left none remaining, as he had done to Eglon, and devoted it to destruction and every person in it.

“ This day the Lord your God commands you to do these statutes and rules. You shall therefore be careful to do them with all your heart and with all your soul.You have declared today that the Lord is your God, and that you will walk in his ways, and keep his statutes and his commandments and his rules, and will obey his voice.
