基督替我們受了咒詛，就救贖我們脫離了律法的咒詛，因為經上記著：“凡掛在木頭上的，都是受咒詛的。”

“如果人犯了該死的罪，被處死以後，你就把他掛在木頭上；他的屍體不可留在樹上過夜，必須在當日把他埋葬，因為被掛在木頭上的，是受神咒詛的；這樣，你就不至於玷污耶和華你的神賜給你作產業的地了。”

在王面前有一個太監哈波拿說：“還有，哈曼為那曾經說好話救王有功的末底改，立了一個二十二公尺高的木架，現在正立在哈曼的家裡呢。”王說：“把哈曼掛在上面吧！”於是他們把哈曼掛在他為末底改預備的木架上；王的忿怒才漸漸止息。

把他們交在基遍人的手裡。基遍人就在山上耶和華面前把他們處決，這七人就一同倒斃了。他們被處死的時候，正是收穫季節之初，就是開始收割大麥的時候。

群眾回答：“流他的血的責任，歸在我們和我們子孫的身上吧。”

那陰謀查究起來，就發現真相；於是把二人懸掛在木架上。這事在王面前曾寫於史記。
