他们必为你放声痛哭，把尘土撒在自己的头上，在灰中打滚。他们必因你把头剃光，腰束麻布，为你痛心哭泣，苦苦悲哀。

约伯坐在灰烬中，拿瓦片刮自己。

但神所赐的恩更大；所以圣经上说：“神对抗骄傲的人，赐恩给谦卑的人。”你们应当顺服神，抵挡魔鬼，魔鬼就逃避你们。你们应当亲近神，神就亲近你们。罪人啊，要洁净你们的手；三心两意的人哪，要清洁你们的心。你们要愁苦、悲哀、哭泣，把欢笑变为伤痛，把快乐变为忧愁。你们务要在主面前谦卑，他就使你们高升。

你要对君王和太后说：“你们应从宝座下来，因为华丽的冠冕已经从你们的头上脱下来了。”

卑微的弟兄应当以高升为荣；富足的也不应该以降卑为辱；因为他如同草上的花，必要过去。

于是我转向主神，禁食，披麻蒙灰，藉祈祷和恳求寻求他。

我的同胞（“同胞”原文作“人民的女子”）啊！应当披上麻布，在灰尘中打滚，悲哀如丧独生子，号咷痛哭，因为有行毁灭的会突然攻击我们。

因此我厌恶自己，在尘土和灰烬中懊悔。”

不要在迦特报信，不要在巴歌哭泣；却要在伯．亚弗拉打滚于尘土中。

现在，君王啊！你们要谨慎。地上的审判官啊！你们应当听劝告。你们要以敬畏的态度事奉耶和华，又应当存战兢的心而欢呼。你们要用嘴亲吻子，否则他一发怒，你们就在路上灭亡，因为他的怒气快要发作。凡是投靠他的，都是有福的。

他要把自己的口埋于尘土中，或者还有盼望。
