They threw me into a pit and dropped stones on me.The water rose over my head, and I cried out,“ This is the end!”But I called on your name, Lord, from deep within the pit.You heard me when I cried,“ Listen to my pleading! Hear my cry for help!”

From the depths of despair, O Lord, I call for your help.Hear my cry, O Lord. Pay attention to my prayer.

God might kill me, but I have no other hope. I am going to argue my case with him.

So the Lord sent the commanders of the Assyrian armies, and they took Manasseh prisoner. They put a ring through his nose, bound him in bronze chains, and led him away to Babylon.But while in deep distress, Manasseh sought the Lord his God and sincerely humbled himself before the God of his ancestors.And when he prayed, the Lord listened to him and was moved by his request. So the Lord brought Manasseh back to Jerusalem and to his kingdom. Then Manasseh finally realized that the Lord alone is God!

Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.”

Lord, in distress we searched for you. We prayed beneath the burden of your discipline.
