The captain went to him and said,“ How can you sleep? Get up and call on your god! Maybe he will take notice of us so that we will not perish.”

So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.

The captain approached him and said,“ What are you doing sound asleep? Get up! Call to your god. Maybe this god will consider us, and we won’t perish.”

Who can tell? Perhaps even yet God will change his mind and hold back his fierce anger from destroying us.”

Hate evil and love what is good; turn your courts into true halls of justice. Perhaps even yet the Lord God of Heaven’s Armies will have mercy on the remnant of his people.

That is why he broke them with hard labor; they fell, and no one was there to help them.“ Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.

David replied,“ I fasted and wept while the child was alive, for I said,‘ Perhaps the Lord will be gracious to me and let the child live.’

But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water.Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting,“ Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?”When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves,“ Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm.Then he asked them,“ Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?”The disciples were absolutely terrified.“ Who is this man?” they asked each other.“ Even the wind and waves obey him!”

But he said,“ Why all this weeping? You are breaking my heart! I am ready not only to be jailed at Jerusalem but even to die for the sake of the Lord Jesus.”

“ Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble, and he rescued them from their distress.

When God began killing them, they finally sought him. They repented and took God seriously.

To an image carved from a piece of wood they say,‘ You are my father.’ To an idol chiseled from a block of stone they say,‘ You are my mother.’ They turn their backs on me, but in times of trouble they cry out to me,‘ Come and save us!’But why not call on these gods you have made? When trouble comes, let them save you if they can! For you have as many gods as there are towns in Judah.

This is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.

They couldn’t stand the thought of food, and they were knocking on death’s door.“ Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.He sent out his word and healed them, snatching them from the door of death.

“ Go and gather together all the Jews of Susa and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will do the same. And then, though it is against the law, I will go in to see the king. If I must die, I must die.”

How dare you crush my people, grinding the faces of the poor into the dust?” demands the Lord, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

The Lord is at the head of the column. He leads them with a shout. This is his mighty army, and they follow his orders. The day of the Lord is an awesome, terrible thing. Who can possibly survive?

“ Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.He calmed the storm to a whisper and stilled the waves.

for the light makes everything visible. This is why it is said,“ Awake, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will give you light.”

“ Why do you quote this proverb concerning the land of Israel:‘ The parents have eaten sour grapes, but their children’s mouths pucker at the taste’?
