又謂之曰、我當何以待爾、使海為我而恬靜乎、因海久而愈盪、

又曰、今海震盪愈甚、當若何待爾、則風浪可息。

又曰、今海之波濤洶湧已甚、當若何待爾、使海恬靜乎、

The sea was getting rougher and rougher. So they asked him,“ What should we do to you to make the sea calm down for us?”

So they said to him,“ What should we do to you so that the sea will become calm for us?”— for the sea was becoming increasingly stormy.

Then they said to him,“ What shall we do to you that the sea may be calm for us?”— for the sea was growing more tempestuous.

Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea grew more and more tempestuous.

So they said to him,“ What should we do to you to calm this sea that’s against us?” For the sea was getting worse and worse.

Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous.

Because the storm was growing worse and worse, they said to him,“ What should we do to you to make the sea calm down for us?”

Then they said to him,“ What shall we do to you, that the sea may be calm to us?” For the sea grew more and more stormy.

大衛年間，連續有三年的饑荒。大衛尋求耶和華的面，耶和華說：「這與掃羅和他家殺人流血有關，因為他曾經殺害基遍人。」王就召來基遍人，向他們問話。這基遍人不是以色列人，而是亞摩利人中的餘剩者。以色列人曾向他們起過誓，掃羅卻因他對以色列人和猶大人的熱心而圖謀要殺滅他們。大衛問基遍人：「我該為你們做些什麼呢？我該怎樣贖罪，使你們祝福耶和華的繼業呢？」基遍人回答：「我們和掃羅以及他家之間的問題與金銀無關，我們也不要殺以色列中的任何人。」大衛說：「那你們自己說，我該為你們做些什麼？」他們就對王說：「對於那消滅我們，企圖除滅我們，使我們不能在以色列境內立足的人，請從他的子孫中交給我們七個男丁，我們要在掃羅的基比亞——耶和華的揀選之地，在耶和華面前把他們處死示眾。」王說：「我會交出來。」

大衛清晨起來，耶和華的話臨到先知迦得，就是大衛的先見，說：「你去告訴大衛：『耶和華如此說：我給你三樣災，你從其中挑選一個，我就降在你身上。』」迦得就來見大衛，向他傳告說：「你要國中遭受饑荒七年，或被敵人追逼逃亡三個月，還是國中有瘟疫三天呢？現在你要想好，看看我應該怎樣回話給派遣我來的那一位。」

非利士人把祭司和占卜者們召來，問：「我們應該怎麼處理耶和華的約櫃呢？請指示我們應該怎樣把它送回原處。」他們回答：「如果你們要送回以色列神的約櫃，不要空手送回，一定要把賠罪的禮物帶給以色列的神。這樣你們就可以痊癒，也知道為什麼他的手不離開你們。」
