In little more than a year you will shudder, you complacent women; for the grape harvest fails, the fruit harvest will not come.Tremble, you women who are at ease, shudder, you complacent ones; strip, and make yourselves bare, and tie sackcloth around your waist.Beat your breasts for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vine,

“ But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap.For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth.But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

Come now, you rich, weep and howl for the miseries that are coming upon you.

O you who put far away the day of disaster and bring near the seat of violence?“ Woe to those who lie on beds of ivory and stretch themselves out on their couches, and eat lambs from the flock and calves from the midst of the stall,who sing idle songs to the sound of the harp and like David invent for themselves instruments of music,who drink wine in bowls and anoint themselves with the finest oils, but are not grieved over the ruin of Joseph!Therefore they shall now be the first of those who go into exile, and the revelry of those who stretch themselves out shall pass away.”

Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed.The night is far gone; the day is at hand.
