耆老歟、爾其聽此、斯土居民歟、爾其傾耳、當爾之日、或爾列祖之日、有此事乎、

長老居民、尚其聽之哉、我將有言、乃爾父及今所未聞也、

老者當聽、斯地之居民、尚其傾耳、將有一災、爾曹在世之日、爾祖在世之日、未有如是者、未有如是者原文作曾有如是者乎

Hear this, O priests! Pay attention, O house of Israel! Give ear, O house of the king! For the judgment is for you; for you have been a snare at Mizpah and a net spread upon Tabor.

a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness! Like blackness there is spread upon the mountains a great and powerful people; their like has never been before, nor will be again after them through the years of all generations.

“ For inquire, please, of bygone ages, and consider what the fathers have searched out.

Alas! That day is so great there is none like it; it is a time of distress for Jacob; yet he shall be saved out of it.

He who has ears, let him hear.”

Hear this, you heads of the house of Jacob and rulers of the house of Israel, who detest justice and make crooked all that is straight,

Both the gray-haired and the aged are among us, older than your father.

Consecrate a fast; call a solemn assembly. Gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land to the house of the Lord your God, and cry out to the Lord.

“ At that time shall arise Michael, the great prince who has charge of your people. And there shall be a time of trouble, such as never has been since there was a nation till that time. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone whose name shall be found written in the book.

“ Hear this word, you cows of Bashan, who are on the mountain of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who say to your husbands,‘ Bring, that we may drink!’

“ For ask now of the days that are past, which were before you, since the day that God created man on the earth, and ask from one end of heaven to the other, whether such a great thing as this has ever happened or was ever heard of.Did any people ever hear the voice of a god speaking out of the midst of the fire, as you have heard, and still live?Or has any god ever attempted to go and take a nation for himself from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs, by wonders, and by war, by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, and by great deeds of terror, all of which the Lord your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?To you it was shown, that you might know that the Lord is God; there is no other besides him.

“ Hear this, O foolish and senseless people, who have eyes, but see not, who have ears, but hear not.

Hear the word of the Lord, O children of Israel, for the Lord has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land. There is no faithfulness or steadfast love, and no knowledge of God in the land;

Hear, you peoples, all of you; pay attention, O earth, and all that is in it, and let the Lord God be a witness against you, the Lord from his holy temple.

Hear this word that the Lord has spoken against you, O people of Israel, against the whole family that I brought up out of the land of Egypt:

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.’

And I said: Hear, you heads of Jacob and rulers of the house of Israel! Is it not for you to know justice?—

Wisdom is with the aged, and understanding in length of days.

Hear this word that I take up over you in lamentation, O house of Israel:

Why do the wicked live, reach old age, and grow mighty in power?

The Lord will bring upon you and upon your people and upon your father’s house such days as have not come since the day that Ephraim departed from Judah— the king of Assyria!”

Hear this, all peoples! Give ear, all inhabitants of the world,

Draw near, O nations, to hear, and give attention, O peoples! Let the earth hear, and all that fills it; the world, and all that comes from it.

For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be.
