Why do the wicked continue to live, growing old and becoming powerful?Their children are established while they are still alive, and their descendants, before their eyes.Their homes are secure and free of fear; no rod from God strikes them.

He saves the needy from their sharp words and from the clutches of the powerful.

Don’t rob a poor person because he is poor, and don’t crush the oppressed at the city gate,for the LORD will champion their cause and will plunder those who plunder them.

“ You must not mistreat any widow or fatherless child.If you do mistreat them, they will no doubt cry to me, and I will certainly hear their cry.My anger will burn, and I will kill you with the sword; then your wives will be widows and your children fatherless.

For the one who seeks an accounting for bloodshed remembers them; he does not forget the cry of the oppressed.

God stands in the divine assembly; he pronounces judgment among the gods:“ How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked? SelahProvide justice for the needy and the fatherless; uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute.Rescue the poor and needy; save them from the power of the wicked.”

For I rescued the poor who cried out for help, and the fatherless child who had no one to support him.The dying blessed me, and I made the widow’s heart rejoice.I clothed myself in righteousness, and it enveloped me; my just decisions were like a robe and a turban.I was eyes to the blind and feet to the lame.I was a father to the needy, and I examined the case of the stranger.I shattered the fangs of the unjust and snatched the prey from his teeth.

Indeed, the evil person is spared from the day of disaster, rescued from the day of wrath.

May he vindicate the afflicted among the people, help the poor, and crush the oppressor.

God, you will bring them down to the Pit of destruction; men of bloodshed and treachery will not live out half their days. But I will trust in you.

then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of judgment,

You will be righteous, LORD, even if I bring a case against you. Yet, I wish to contend with you: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all the treacherous live at ease?You planted them, and they have taken root. They have grown and produced fruit. You are ever on their lips, but far from their conscience.

But you yourself have seen trouble and grief, observing it in order to take the matter into your hands. The helpless one entrusts himself to you; you are a helper of the fatherless.Break the arm of the wicked, evil person, until you look for his wickedness, but it can’t be found.

but he will judge the poor righteously and execute justice for the oppressed of the land. He will strike the land with a scepter from his mouth, and he will kill the wicked with a command from his lips.

Your enemies will be clothed with shame; the tent of the wicked will no longer exist.
