though you were a powerful man, owning land— an honored man, living on it.

You did it even though you were honored and powerful. You owned land and lived on it.

The man with power possessed the land, and the favored man lived in it.

You probably think the land belongs to the powerful and only the privileged have a right to it!

But the earth belongs to the powerful man, And the one who is honorable dwells on it.

But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; And the honorable man, he dwelt in it.

The elder and honorable, he is the head; The prophet who teaches lies, he is the tail.

The wicked prowl on every side, When vileness is exalted among the sons of men.

So the men of his city, the elders and nobles who were inhabitants of his city, did as Jezebel had sent to them, as it was written in the letters which she had sent to them.They proclaimed a fast, and seated Naboth with high honor among the people.And two men, scoundrels, came in and sat before him; and the scoundrels witnessed against him, against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying,“ Naboth has blasphemed God and the king!” Then they took him outside the city and stoned him with stones, so that he died.Then they sent to Jezebel, saying,“ Naboth has been stoned and is dead.”And it came to pass, when Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab,“ Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give you for money; for Naboth is not alive, but dead.”

Because I feared the great multitude, And dreaded the contempt of families, So that I kept silence And did not go out of the door—

Will you show partiality for Him? Will you contend for God?

The captain of fifty and the honorable man, The counselor and the skillful artisan, And the expert enchanter.

That they may successfully do evil with both hands— The prince asks for gifts, The judge seeks a bribe, And the great man utters his evil desire; So they scheme together.
