蓋剝奪其民、至於貧乏、則遺棄之、人所建之第宅、則強據之。

貧民則欺壓遺棄、強據第宅、並不自建、

For he has oppressed the poor and left them destitute; he has seized houses he did not build.

And when He calls me to account, how am I to answer Him?Did He who made me in the womb not make him, And the same one create us in the womb?“ If I have kept the poor from their desire, Or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,Or have eaten my morsel alone, And the orphan has not shared it( But from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, And from my infancy I guided her),If I have seen anyone perish for lack of clothing, Or that the needy had no covering,If his waist has not thanked me, And if he has not been warmed with the fleece of my sheep,If I have lifted up my hand against the orphan, Because I saw I had support in the gate,May my shoulder fall from its socket, And my arm be broken off at the elbow.

People remove landmarks; They seize and devour flocks.They drive away the donkeys of orphans; They seize the widow’s ox as a pledge.They push the needy aside from the road; The poor of the land have to hide themselves together.Behold, like wild donkeys in the wilderness They go out scavenging for food in their activity, As bread for their children in the desert.They harvest their feed in the field And glean the vineyard of the wicked.They spend the night naked, without clothing, And have no covering against the cold.They are wet from the mountain rains, And they hug the rock for lack of a shelter.Others snatch an orphan from the breast, And they seize it as a pledge against the poor.The poor move about naked without clothing, And they carry sheaves, while going hungry.Within the walls they produce oil; They tread wine presses but go thirsty.From the city people groan, And the souls of the wounded cry for help; Yet God does not pay attention to the offensiveness.

To crush under one’s feet All the prisoners of the land,

Then I looked again at all the acts of oppression which were being done under the sun. And behold, I saw the tears of the oppressed and that they had no one to comfort them; and power was on the side of their oppressors, but they had no one to comfort them.

“ Behold, I know your thoughts, And the plots you devise against me.For you say,‘ Where is the house of the nobleman, And where is the tent, the dwelling places of the wicked?’

For the vineyard of the Lord of armies is the house of Israel, And the people of Judah are His delightful plant. So He waited for justice, but behold, there was bloodshed; For righteousness, but behold, a cry for help.Woe to those who attach house to house and join field to field, Until there is no more room, And you alone are a landowner in the midst of the land!

For you have seized pledges from your brothers without cause, And stripped people naked.

Hear this word, you cows of Bashan who are on the mountain of Samaria, Who exploit the poor, who oppress the needy, And say to their husbands,“ Bring now, that we may drink!”The Lord God has sworn by His holiness,“ For behold, the days are coming upon you When they will take you away with meat hooks, And the last of you with fish hooks.You will go out through holes in the walls, One in front of the other, And you will be hurled to Harmon,” declares the Lord.

Behold, the pay of the laborers who mowed your fields, and which has been withheld by you, cries out against you; and the outcry of those who did the harvesting has reached the ears of the Lord of armies.

The people of the land have practiced extortion and committed robbery, and they have oppressed the poor and needy, and have oppressed the stranger without justice.

A people whom you do not know will eat the produce of your ground and every product of your labor, and you will never be anything but oppressed and mistreated continually.

But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you and personally drag you into court?

Do not rob the poor because he is poor, Nor crush the needy at the gate;For the Lord will plead their case And take the life of those who rob them.

If you see oppression of the poor and denial of justice and righteousness in the province, do not be shocked at the sight; for one official watches over another official, and there are higher officials over them.

They covet fields, so they seize them; And houses, so they take them. They exploit a man and his house, A person and his inheritance.

To vindicate the orphan and the oppressed, So that mankind, which is of the earth, will no longer cause terror.

You evict the women of My people, Each one from her pleasant house. From her children you take My splendor forever.

“ If my land cries out against me, And its furrows weep together;If I have eaten its fruit without money, Or have caused its owners to lose their lives,

Nothing of his dwells in his tent; Brimstone is scattered on his home.

For judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment.

“ Because of the devastation of the poor, because of the groaning of the needy, Now I will arise,” says the Lord;“ I will put him in the safety for which he longs.”
