If only you would be altogether silent! For you, that would be wisdom.

I wish you would keep your mouths shut! Then people would think you were wise.

If only you would shut up and let that be your wisdom!

Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace; When he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive.

For a dream comes through much activity, And a fool’s voice is known by his many words.

“ Hold your peace with me, and let me speak, Then let come on me what may!

So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;

Shall words of wind have an end? Or what provokes you that you answer?

Should your empty talk make men hold their peace? And when you mock, should no one rebuke you?

So these three men ceased answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.

“ How long will you torment my soul, And break me in pieces with words?

Therefore the prudent keep silent at that time, For it is an evil time.

“ Listen carefully to my speech, And let this be your consolation.Bear with me that I may speak, And after I have spoken, keep mocking.
