before I go to the place of no return, to the land of gloom and utter darkness,

Turn away before I go to the place I can’t return from. It’s the land of gloom and total darkness.

我雖過死陰之幽谷、亦不懼遭害、因主常在我側、主有杖有竿、足以安慰我、

惟人死則滅、人氣絕則安在、沼水盡絕、溪涸而乾、人亦如此、寢而不起、迨及天盡、不能復覺、長眠不醒、願主藏我於示阿勒、示阿勒見七章九節小註匿我以待主之怒息、為我定期、再眷顧我、人死豈能復生、我在徵戰之日、有所希望、直至我之大變來臨、大變來臨即逝世之義

見我之目、不得復見我、爾以目睹我、我已不在矣、雲散而沒、如此、下示阿勒示阿勒有譯黃泉有譯陰府有譯墳墓者不復上、不復歸家宅、其原處不復識之、

若非如此、則久已偃臥安逸、長眠寧靜、

我儕終必死亡、如水傾地、不能復聚、惟天主不偏待人、或作天主不使人喪命必設一法、使逃亡者終得旋歸、

在墓中豈能宣揚主之恩惠、在滅亡之地、滅亡之地原文作亞巴盾豈能宣揚主之誠實、在幽暗之中、豈能明主之奇行、在死亡之地、死亡之地原文作百事被忘之地豈能知主之公義、

我云、我不復瞻望主、不復瞻望主於生命之地、不復見同人、不復見世之居民、

主將我投於深坑、於黑暗、於深淵、

彼不求我、不念我曾引之出伊及、導之過曠野沙漠坎阱之地、旱乾幽暗幽暗原文作死陰之地、無人經歷無人居處之地、
