耶穌看出他們的惡意，就說：「假冒為善的人哪，為甚麼試探我？

也不可試探主，像他們中有些人曾試探主就被蛇咬死。

耶穌卻一言不答。門徒進前來，求他說：「這婦人在我們後頭喊叫，請打發她走吧。」

你們怨恨那在城門口斷是非的，憎惡那說正直話的。

耶穌從那裏出來，文士和法利賽人就開始極力地催逼他，盤問他許多事，伺機要抓他的話柄。

猶大是隻小獅子；我兒啊，你捕獲了獵物就上去。他蹲伏，他躺臥，如公獅，又如母獅，誰敢惹他呢？

於是他們窺探耶穌，打發奸細裝作好人，要在他的話上抓把柄，好把他交給總督處置。奸細就問耶穌：「老師，我們知道你所講所教的都很正確，也不看人的面子，而是誠誠實實傳神的道。我們納稅給凱撒合不合法？」耶穌看出他們的詭詐，就對他們說：

「看哪！我差你們出去，如同羊進入狼羣，所以你們要機警如蛇，純真如鴿。

那尋索我命的設下羅網，那想要害我的口出惡言，整日思想詭計。但我如聾子聽不見，像啞巴不能開口。我如聽不見的人，無法用口答辯。

有法利賽人來問他說：「男人休妻合不合法？」意思是要試探他。

法利賽人出來盤問耶穌，要求他從天上顯個神蹟給他們看，想要試探他。

其中有一個人是律法師，要試探耶穌，就問他：

所以智慧人在這樣的時候必靜默不言，因為這是險惡的時候。

過路時捲入與己無關的紛爭，好像人揪住狗耳一般。

這些人雖然都看過我的榮耀和我在埃及與曠野所行的神蹟，仍然這十次試探我，不聽從我的話，

法利賽人和撒都該人來試探耶穌，請他顯個來自天上的神蹟給他們看。

耶穌卻不言語。大祭司對他說：「我指着永生神命令你起誓告訴我們，你是不是基督－神的兒子？」

當時，忽然有人的指頭出現，在燈臺對面王宮粉刷的牆上寫字。王看見寫字的指頭，

清早，他又回到聖殿裏。眾百姓都到他那裏去，他就坐下，教導他們。

我曾說：「我要謹慎我的言行，免得我的舌頭犯罪；惡人在我面前的時候，我要用嚼環勒住我的口。」

又有人試探耶穌，要他顯個來自天上的神蹟。

我們該不該納？」耶穌知道他們的虛偽，就對他們說：「你們為甚麼試探我？拿一個銀幣來給我看。」
