他們討厭那在城門口主持公道的人，恨惡說正直話的。

耶穌從那裡出來，經學家和法利賽人非常敵視他，質問他很多問題，等機會從他的口中找把柄。

猶大是隻小獅子；我兒啊，你獵取了食物就上到洞穴去。他屈身伏臥，好像公獅，又像母獅，誰敢驚動他呢？

經學家和祭司長差派奸細偽裝好人去窺探耶穌，要在他的話上抓著把柄，好把他交由總督全權裁決。奸細問他：“老師，我們知道你所說所教的都對，並且不講情面，只照著真理把神的道教導人。我們納稅給凱撒可以不可以？”耶穌看透他們的詭計，就對他們說：

“現在，我差派你們出去，好像羊進到狼群中間；所以你們要像蛇一樣機警，像鴿子一樣純潔。

那些尋索我命的，設下網羅；那些想要害我的，口說威嚇的話，他們整天思想詭計。至於我，像個聾子，不能聽見；像個啞巴，不能開口。我竟變成了一個像是不能聽見的人，變成了一個口中不能反駁的人。

有法利賽人前來試探耶穌，問他：“丈夫可以休妻嗎？

法利賽人出來，跟耶穌辯論；他們想試探他，求他顯個從天上來的神蹟。

他們中間有一個律法家，試探耶穌說：

為此，聰明人在這時代緘默無聲，因這時代邪惡。

過路的人被激怒，去干涉與自己無關的爭執，就像人揪住狗的耳朵。

這些見過我的榮耀，和我在埃及與曠野所行的神蹟的人，仍然試探了我這十次，不聽從我的話；

法利賽人和撒都該人前來試探耶穌，求他顯個從天上來的神蹟給他們看。

耶穌卻不作聲。大祭司又對他說：“我指著永生的神要你起誓，告訴我們你是不是基督、神的兒子。”

當時，忽然有人手的指頭出現，在王宮裡燈臺對面的粉牆上寫字；王看見了那隻正在寫字的手掌，

黎明的時候，他又到聖殿去，眾人都來到他那裡，他就坐下教導他們。

我曾說：“我要謹慎我的行為，不讓我的舌頭犯罪；惡人在我面前的時候，我總要用罩子約束我的嘴。”

又有人試探他，向他求一個從天上來的神蹟。

耶穌看出他們的假意，就對他們說：“你們為甚麼試探我呢？拿一個銀幣來給我，讓我看看。”
