I know you are descendants of Abraham, but you are trying to kill me because my word has no place among you.

I know that you are Abraham’s descendants. Yet you are looking for a way to kill me, because you have no room for my word.

Yes, I realize that you are descendants of Abraham. And yet some of you are trying to kill me because there’s no room in your hearts for my message.

I know that ye are Abraham’s seed, yet ye seek to kill me, because my word hath not free course in you.

After this, Jesus traveled in Galilee, since he did not want to travel in Judea because the Jews were trying to kill him.

So they picked up stones to throw at him. But Jesus was hidden and went out of the temple.

Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me.Who among you can convict me of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me?The one who is from God listens to God’s words. This is why you don’t listen, because you are not from God.”

But the person without the Spirit does not receive what comes from God’s Spirit, because it is foolishness to him; he is not able to understand it since it is evaluated spiritually.

Neither is it the case that all of Abraham’s children are his descendants. On the contrary, your offspring will be traced through Isaac.

How can you believe, since you accept glory from one another but don’t seek the glory that comes from the only God?

Again the Jews picked up rocks to stone him.

“ Our father is Abraham,” they replied.“ If you were Abraham’s children,” Jesus told them,“ you would do what Abraham did.But now you are trying to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do this.

“ We are descendants of Abraham,” they answered him,“ and we have never been enslaved to anyone. How can you say,‘ You will become free’?”

Why don’t you understand what I say? Because you cannot listen to my word.

They asked this to trap him, in order that they might have evidence to accuse him. Jesus stooped down and started writing on the ground with his finger.

Some of the people of Jerusalem were saying,“ Isn’t this the man they are trying to kill?

“ Brothers and sisters, children of Abraham’s race, and those among you who fear God, it is to us that the word of this salvation has been sent.

For this people’s heart has grown callous; their ears are hard of hearing, and they have shut their eyes; otherwise they might see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and turn back— and I would heal them.

So from that day on they plotted to kill him.

Therefore, the Jews began persecuting Jesus because he was doing these things on the Sabbath.Jesus responded to them,“ My Father is still working, and I am working also.”This is why the Jews began trying all the more to kill him: Not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal to God.

Didn’t Moses give you the law? Yet none of you keeps the law. Why are you trying to kill me?”

This is why they were unable to believe, because Isaiah also said:He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so that they would not see with their eyes or understand with their hearts, and turn, and I would heal them.Isaiah said these things because he saw his glory and spoke about him.Nevertheless, many did believe in him even among the rulers, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, so that they would not be banned from the synagogue.For they loved human praise more than praise from God.

When anyone hears the word about the kingdom and doesn’t understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the one sown along the path.And the one sown on rocky ground— this is one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy.But he has no root and is short-lived. When distress or persecution comes because of the word, immediately he falls away.Now the one sown among the thorns— this is one who hears the word, but the worries of this age and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.
