「你們這假冒為善的文士和法利賽人有禍了！因為你們當着人的面把天國的門關了，自己不進去，要進去的人，你們也不容他們進去。

警衛們回到祭司長和法利賽人那裏。他們對警衛說：「你們為甚麼沒有帶他來呢？」警衛回答：「從來沒有像他這樣說話的！」於是法利賽人說：「你們也受了迷惑嗎？難道官長或法利賽人中有信他的嗎？但這些不明白律法的眾人是被詛咒的！」其中有尼哥德慕，就是從前去見過耶穌的，對他們說：「不先聽本人的口供，查明他所做的事，難道我們的律法還定他的罪嗎？」他們回答他說：「你也是出自加利利嗎？你去查考就知道，加利利是不出先知的。」〔於是各人都回家去了，

眾人都驚奇，說：「這不是大衛之子嗎？」但法利賽人聽見，就說：「這個人趕鬼，無非是靠着鬼王別西卜罷了。」

耶穌對那些來抓他的祭司長、守殿官和長老說：「你們帶着刀棒出來，如同對付強盜嗎？我天天同你們在聖殿裏，你們不下手抓我。現在卻是你們的時候，黑暗掌權了。」

法利賽人彼此說：「你們看，你們一事無成，世人都隨着他去了。」
