耶穌還在對眾人說話的時候，不料，他母親和他兄弟站在外邊想要跟他說話。

原來連他的兄弟們也不信他。

耶穌的母親和他兄弟來看他，因為人多，不能到他跟前。

但他的兄弟們上去過節以後，他也上去，不是公開去，卻似乎是祕密地去的。

大衛的長兄以利押聽見大衛與他們所說的話，就向他發怒，說：「你下來做甚麼呢？在曠野的那幾隻羊，你交託誰了呢？我知道你的驕傲和你心裏的惡意，你下來只是為了看戰爭！」

因為連你兄弟和你父家都以詭詐待你，甚至在你後邊大聲喊叫。雖然他們向你說好話，你也不要相信他們。」

那時，耶穌的母親和他兄弟來，站在外邊，打發人去叫他。

約瑟做了一個夢，告訴他哥哥們，他們就更加恨他。約瑟對他們說：「請聽我做的這個夢：看哪，我們在田裏捆禾稼；看哪，我的捆起來站着；看哪，你們的捆圍着我的捆下拜。」他的哥哥們對他說：「難道你真的要作我們的王嗎？難道你真的要統治我們嗎？」他們就因他的夢和他的話更加恨他。後來他又做了另一個夢，告訴他哥哥們說：「看哪，我又做了一個夢；看哪，太陽、月亮和十一顆星都向我下拜。」約瑟告訴他父親和哥哥們，他父親就責備他說：「你做的這是甚麼夢！難道我和你母親、你的兄弟真的要俯伏在地，來向你下拜嗎？」他的哥哥們都嫉妒他，他父親卻把這事存在心裏。

現在，來吧！我們把他殺了，丟在一個坑裏，就說有惡獸把他吃了。我們且看他的夢將來怎麼樣。」

就打發他們的門徒同希律黨人去見耶穌，說：「老師，我們知道你是誠實的，並且誠誠實實傳神的道，無論誰你都一視同仁，因為你不看人的面子。請告訴我們，你的意見如何？納稅給凱撒合不合法？」

彼得和十一個使徒站起來，他就高聲向眾人說：「猶太人和所有住在耶路撒冷的人哪，這件事你們要知道，要側耳聽我的話。
