Ruth 1:11-18
But Naomi said,“ Turn back, my daughters; why will you go with me? Are there still sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?Turn back, my daughters, go— for I am too old to have a husband. If I should say I have hope, if I should have a husband tonight and should also bear sons, would you wait for them till they were grown? Would you restrain yourselves from having husbands? No, my daughters; for it grieves me very much for your sakes that the hand of the Lord has gone out against me!”Then they lifted up their voices and wept again; and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth clung to her.And she said,“ Look, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her gods; return after your sister-in-law.”But Ruth said:“ Entreat me not to leave you, Or to turn back from following after you; For wherever you go, I will go; And wherever you lodge, I will lodge; Your people shall be my people, And your God, my God.Where you die, I will die, And there will I be buried. The Lord do so to me, and more also, If anything but death parts you and me.”When she saw that she was determined to go with her, she stopped speaking to her.

Joshua 24:15-22
And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”So the people answered and said:“ Far be it from us that we should forsake the Lord to serve other gods;for the Lord our God is He who brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, who did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way that we went and among all the people through whom we passed. And the Lord drove out from before us all the people, including the Amorites who dwelt in the land. We also will serve the Lord, for He is our God.”But Joshua said to the people,“ You cannot serve the Lord, for He is a holy God. He is a jealous God; He will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.If you forsake the Lord and serve foreign gods, then He will turn and do you harm and consume you, after He has done you good.”And the people said to Joshua,“ No, but we will serve the Lord!”So Joshua said to the people,“ You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen the Lord for yourselves, to serve Him.” And they said,“ We are witnesses!”

Then the king said to Ittai the Gittite,“ Why are you also going with us? Return and remain with the king. For you are a foreigner and also an exile from your own place. In fact, you came only yesterday. Should I make you wander up and down with us today, since I go I know not where? Return, and take your brethren back. Mercy and truth be with you.”

Luke 14:25-33
Now great multitudes went with Him. And He turned and said to them,“ If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it—lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying,‘ This man began to build and was not able to finish’?Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks conditions of peace. So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.
