Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves,“ How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”

Some of the Pharisees said,“ This man is not from God, because he doesn’t keep the Sabbath.” But others were saying,“ How can a sinful man perform such signs?” And there was a division among them.

Therefore the Jews started grumbling about him because he said,“ I am the bread that came down from heaven.”

“ How can these things be?” asked Nicodemus.

When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some began to ridicule him, but others said,“ We’d like to hear from you again about this.”

But the person without the Spirit does not receive what comes from God’s Spirit, because it is foolishness to him; he is not able to understand it since it is evaluated spiritually.

“ How can anyone be born when he is old?” Nicodemus asked him.“ Can he enter his mother’s womb a second time and be born?”

When some from the crowd heard these words, they said,“ This truly is the Prophet.”Others said,“ This is the Messiah.” But some said,“ Surely the Messiah doesn’t come from Galilee, does he?Doesn’t the Scripture say that the Messiah comes from David’s offspring and from the town of Bethlehem, where David lived?”So the crowd was divided because of him.

“ Sir,” said the woman,“ you don’t even have a bucket, and the well is deep. So where do you get this‘ living water’?
