You yourselves can testify that I said,‘ I am not the Messiah but am sent ahead of him.’

予非基督、乃奉使為其前驅者耳。此乃予所夙言、爾曹當可為予作證。

You yourselves are witnesses that I said,‘ I am not the Messiah. I was sent ahead of him.’

You yourselves know how plainly I told you,‘ I am not the Messiah. I am only here to prepare the way for him.’

John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet,“ I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness,‘ Make straight the way for the Lord.’”

“ I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,” says the Lord Almighty.

“ Remember the law of my servant Moses, the decrees and laws I gave him at Horeb for all Israel.“ See, I will send the prophet Elijah to you before that great and dreadful day of the Lord comes.

As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet:“ A voice of one calling in the wilderness,‘ Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth.And all people will see God’s salvation.’”

questioned him,“ Why then do you baptize if you are not the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”

as it is written in Isaiah the prophet:“ I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way”—“ a voice of one calling in the wilderness,‘ Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’”

And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him,

He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God.And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous— to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

He is the one who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.”

This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah:“ A voice of one calling in the wilderness,‘ Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’”

“ I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
