Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away.

Later Joseph asked Pilate for Jesus’ body. Joseph was from the town of Arimathea. He was a follower of Jesus. But he followed Jesus secretly because he was afraid of the Jewish leaders. After Pilate gave him permission, Joseph came and took the body away.

After these things Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus, and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took away his body.

既暮、有富人、自亞利馬太來、名約瑟、耶穌之徒也、入見彼拉多、求耶穌屍、彼拉多命與之、約瑟取屍、裹以潔枲布、置己磐中所鑿之新墓、轉大石於墓門而去、有抹大拉之馬利亞、及他馬利亞、對塋而坐、○

宗主諸兄弟、因我縲絏、益毅然傳道無懼、

是日乃備節日、即安息之先一日、既暮、有約瑟來自亞利馬太、為尊貴議士、仰慕上帝國、毅然入見彼拉多、求耶穌屍、彼拉多奇耶穌已死、遂呼百夫長、問死久乎、既得其情、則以屍賜約瑟、約瑟市枲布、取屍下、裹以枲布、葬於墓、其墓乃鑿磐為之、轉石墓門、抹大拉之馬利亞、及約西之母馬利亞、咸見葬處、

然無敢明言、懼猶太人故也、○

有司多信之、而畏𠵽唎㘔人、恐見逐於會堂、故不敢言、

父母言此、蓋懼猶太人、猶太人約、凡稱耶穌為基督者、必逐之出會堂、

畏威而不敢赴義、必陷乎罪、畏耶和華者必得護衛。
