次日，就是预备日的第二天，祭司长和法利赛人聚集来见彼拉多，

他们把他钉十字架的时候是上午九点钟。

耶稣出来，戴着荆棘冠冕，穿着紫袍。彼拉多对他们说：“看哪，这个人！”

因为那天是犹太人的预备日，而那坟墓又在附近，他们就把耶稣安放在那里。

到了晚上，因为这是预备日，就是安息日的前一日，

彼拉多又写了一个牌子，钉在十字架上，写的是：“犹太人的王，拿撒勒人耶稣。”有许多犹太人念这牌子，因为耶稣被钉十字架的地方靠近城，而且牌子是用希伯来、罗马、希腊三种文字写的。犹太人的祭司长就对彼拉多说：“不要写‘犹太人的王’，要写‘那人说：我是犹太人的王’。”彼拉多回答：“我写了就写了。”

到了正午，全地都黑暗了，直到下午三点钟。下午三点钟的时候，耶稣大声呼喊：“以罗伊！以罗伊！拉马撒巴各大尼？”（翻出来就是：我的神！我的神！为什么离弃我？）

那日是预备日，安息日快到了。

因为这日是预备日，又因为那安息日是个大日子，犹太人就来求彼拉多叫人打断他们的腿，把他们搬走，免得尸首在安息日留在十字架上。于是士兵来，把第一个人的腿，和与耶稣同钉的另一个人的腿，都打断了。

又走到他面前，说：“万岁，犹太人的王！”他们就打他耳光。
