What I’m about to tell you is true. You will weep and mourn while the world is full of joy. You will be sad, but your sadness will turn into joy.

Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy.

Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first.”“ Take a guard,” Pilate answered.“ Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how.”So they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal on the stone and posting the guard. The centurion, seeing what had happened, praised God and said,“ Surely this was a righteous man.”When all the people who had gathered to witness this sight saw what took place, they beat their breasts and went away.But all those who knew him, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things. They will come with weeping; they will pray as I bring them back. You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit. (niv)

You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days,come down from the cross and save yourself!”In the same way the chief priests and the teachers of the law mocked him among themselves.“ He saved others,” they said,“ but he can’t save himself!Let this Messiah, this king of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe.” Those crucified with him also heaped insults on him. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said,‘ I am the Son of God.’”In the same way the rebels who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him. (niv)

Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her,“ Woman, here is your son,”and to the disciple,“ Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home. After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. (niv)

“ But when the tenants saw the son, they said to each other,‘ This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and take his inheritance.’ (niv)
