Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?

何不以此膏鬻金三十以濟貧乎、

曰、何不售此膏、得金三十、以濟貧乎、

何不售此膏、得三百第拿流約銀三十兩以濟貧乎、

責曰：『何不售此膏、得三百銀錢、以濟貧者乎？』

“ Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.”

“ Why wasn’t this perfume sold? Why wasn’t the money given to poor people? It was worth a year’s pay.”

“ Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?”

“ That perfume was worth a year’s wages. It should have been sold and the money given to the poor.”

Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred shillings, and given to the poor?

“ Why wasn’t this fragrant oil sold for 300 denarii and given to the poor?”

“ Why wasn’t this oil sold for three hundred silver coins and the money given to the poor?”

“ Why wasn’t this ointment sold for three hundred denarii, and given to the poor?”

Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.

And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made?For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her.

Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

But when his disciples saw[ it], they had indignation, saying, To what purpose[ is] this waste?For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.

Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little.

Saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit?

And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

And the tale of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish[ ought] thereof: for they[ be] idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go[ and] sacrifice to our God.

And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard.

Who[ is there] even among you that would shut the doors[ for nought]? neither do ye kindle[ fire] on mine altar for nought. I have no pleasure in you, saith the LORD of hosts, neither will I accept an offering at your hand.For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name[ shall be] great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense[ shall be] offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name[ shall be] great among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts.But ye have profaned it, in that ye say, The table of the LORD[ is] polluted; and the fruit thereof,[ even] his meat,[ is] contemptible.Ye said also, Behold, what a weariness[ is it]! and ye have snuffed at it, saith the LORD of hosts; and ye brought[ that which was] torn, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye brought an offering: should I accept this of your hand? saith the LORD.

But he said, Ye[ are] idle,[ ye are] idle: therefore ye say, Let us go[ and] do sacrifice to the LORD.
