Abel, on his part also brought an offering, from the firstborn of his flock and from their fat portions. And the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering;but for Cain and his offering He had no regard. So Cain became very angry and his face was gloomy.Then the Lord said to Cain,“ Why are you angry? And why is your face gloomy?If you do well, will your face not be cheerful? And if you do not do well, sin is lurking at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it.”Cain talked to his brother Abel; and it happened that when they were in the field Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed him.Then the Lord said to Cain,“ Where is Abel your brother?” And he said,“ I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?”Then He said,“ What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying out to Me from the ground.

But he said to him,‘ If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’ ”

Then when Herod saw that he had been tricked by the magi, he became very enraged, and sent men and killed all the boys who were in Bethlehem and all its vicinity who were two years old or under, according to the time which he had determined from the magi.

This is an evil in everything that is done under the sun, that there is one fate for everyone. Furthermore, the hearts of the sons of mankind are full of evil, and insanity is in their hearts throughout their lives. Afterward they go to the dead.

So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said to him,“ This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews says:‘ How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let My people go, so that they may serve Me.

Will you really nullify My judgment? Will you condemn Me so that you may be justified?Or do you have an arm like God, And can you thunder with a voice like His?

When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.And gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born.They said to him,“ In Bethlehem of Judea; for this is what has been written by the prophet:‘ And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, Are by no means least among the leaders of Judah; For from you will come forth a Ruler Who will shepherd My people Israel.’ ”Then Herod secretly called for the magi and determined from them the exact time the star appeared.And he sent them to Bethlehem and said,“ Go and search carefully for the Child; and when you have found Him, report to me, so that I too may come and worship Him.”

He was also driven away from mankind, and his heart was made like that of animals, and his dwelling place was with the wild donkeys. He was given grass to eat like cattle, and his body was drenched with the dew of heaven, until he recognized that the Most High God is ruler over the realm of mankind, and that He sets over it whomever He wishes.Yet you, his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, even though you knew all this,but you have risen up against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you and your nobles, your wives, and your concubines have been drinking wine out of them; and you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see, nor hear, nor understand. But the God in whose hand are your life breath and all your ways, you have not glorified.

Therefore the chief priests and the Pharisees convened a council meeting, and they were saying,“ What are we doing in regard to the fact that this man is performing many signs?If we let Him go on like this, all the people will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take over both our place and our nation.”But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them,“ You know nothing at all,nor are you taking into account that it is in your best interest that one man die for the people, and that the whole nation not perish instead.”Now he did not say this on his own, but as he was high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the nation;and not for the nation only, but in order that He might also gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad.So from that day on they planned together to kill Him.

Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that if anyone knew where He was, he was to report it, so that they might arrest Him.

Because he has reached out with his hand against God, And is arrogant toward the Almighty.He rushes headlong at Him With his massive shield.
