Many of them said,“ He is demon-possessed and raving mad. Why listen to him?”

Many of them said,“ He is controlled by a demon. He has gone crazy! Why should we listen to him?”

Some said,“ He’s demon possessed and out of his mind. Why listen to a man like that?”

Just as Paul was about to speak, Gallio said to them,“ If you Jews were making a complaint about some misdemeanor or serious crime, it would be reasonable for me to listen to you.But since it involves questions about words and names and your own law— settle the matter yourselves. I will not be a judge of such things.” (niv)

Then they hurled insults at him and said,“ You are this fellow’s disciple! We are disciples of Moses!We know that God spoke to Moses, but as for this fellow, we don’t even know where he comes from.” (niv)

By oppression and judgment he was taken away. Yet who of his generation protested? For he was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people he was punished. (niv)

At this point Festus interrupted Paul’s defense.“ You are out of your mind, Paul!” he shouted.“ Your great learning is driving you insane.” (niv)

“ No one ever spoke the way this man does,” the guards replied.“ You mean he has deceived you also?” the Pharisees retorted.“ Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him?No! But this mob that knows nothing of the law— there is a curse on them.”Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus earlier and who was one of their own number, asked,“ Does our law condemn a man without first hearing him to find out what he has been doing?”They replied,“ Are you from Galilee, too? Look into it, and you will find that a prophet does not come out of Galilee.” (niv)

It is enough for students to be like their teachers, and servants like their masters. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household! (niv)

Instead, they had some points of dispute with him about their own religion and about a dead man named Jesus who Paul claimed was alive.I was at a loss how to investigate such matters; so I asked if he would be willing to go to Jerusalem and stand trial there on these charges. (niv)
