約翰是用水施洗，但過了不多幾天，你們要在聖靈裏受洗。」

我是用水給你們施洗，叫你們悔改；但那在我以後來的，能力比我更大，我就是給他提鞋子也不配，他要用聖靈與火給你們施洗。

約翰對眾人說：「我是用水給你們施洗，但有一位能力比我更大的要來，我就是給他解鞋帶也不配。他要用聖靈與火給你們施洗。

他救了我們，並不是因我們自己所行的義，而是照他的憐憫，藉着重生的洗和聖靈的更新。聖靈就是神藉着我們的救主耶穌基督厚厚地澆灌在我們身上的，

我一開始講話，聖靈就降在他們身上，正像當初降在我們身上一樣。我就想起主的話如何說：『約翰用水施洗，但你們要在聖靈裏受洗。』

我們無論是猶太人是希臘人，是為奴的是自主的，都從一位聖靈受洗成了一個身體，並且共享這位聖靈。

耶穌回答：「我實實在在地告訴你，人若不是從水和聖靈生的，就不能進神的國。

問他們：「你們信的時候領受了聖靈沒有？」他們說：「沒有，我們連甚麼是聖靈都沒有聽過。」保羅說：「這樣，你們受的是甚麼洗呢？」他們說：「是受了約翰的洗。」保羅說：「約翰所施的是悔改的洗禮，他告訴百姓當信那在他以後要來的那位，就是耶穌。」他們聽見這話以後，就奉主耶穌的名受洗。保羅給他們按手，聖靈就降在他們身上，他們開始說方言和說預言。

神所差來的說神的話，因為神所賜給他的聖靈是沒有限量的。

他宣講，說：「有一位在我以後來的，能力比我更大，我就是彎腰給他解鞋帶也不配。我用水給你們施洗，他卻要用聖靈給你們施洗。」

彼得還在說這些話的時候，聖靈降在一切聽道的人身上。那些奉割禮的信徒和彼得同來，見聖靈的恩賜也澆在外邦人身上，就都驚奇；因聽見他們說方言，稱讚神為大。於是彼得回答：「這些人既受了聖靈，跟我們一樣，誰能阻止用水給他們施洗呢？」

我先前不認識他，如今我來用水施洗，為要使他顯明給以色列人。」

當時，耶穌從加利利來到約旦河，到了約翰那裏，請約翰為他施洗。約翰想要阻止他，說：「我應該受你的洗，你怎麼到我這裏來呢？」耶穌回答他：「暫且這樣做吧，因為我們理當這樣履行全部的義。」於是約翰就依了他。

他們都被聖靈充滿，就按着聖靈所賜的口才說起別國的話來。
