他們就問他說：「你既不是基督，不是以利亞，也不是那先知，為甚麼施洗呢？」

他們就問他：「你既不是基督，不是以利亞，也不是那位先知，那麼，你為甚麼施洗呢？」

他們詰問約翰說：『你既不是上帝所膏立者基督，又不是以利亞，也不是那位神言人，那你為甚麼施洗呢？』

他們又問約翰：「你既不是基督，又不是以利亞，也不是那位先知，那麼，你為什麼施洗呢？」

復問之曰、爾非基督、非以利亞、非彼先知、胡為施洗耶、

又問曰、爾非基督非以利亞、非先知、何為施洗耶、

又問曰、爾非基督、非以利亞、非彼先知、何為施洗乎、

爰又問曰：『爾既非基督、又非伊理藹、亦非先知、則胡為授洗耶？』

questioned him,“ Why then do you baptize if you are not the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”

asked him,“ If you are not the Messiah, why are you baptizing people? Why are you doing that if you aren’t Elijah or the Prophet we’ve been expecting?”

They asked him,“ Then why are you baptizing, if you are neither the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”

asked him,“ If you aren’t the Messiah or Elijah or the Prophet, what right do you have to baptize?”

So they asked him,“ Why then do you baptize if you aren’t the Messiah, or Elijah, or the Prophet?”

They asked him, and said to him,“ Why then are you baptizing, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”

And they asked him, saying,“ Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”

And they asked him, and said unto him, Why then baptizest thou, if thou art not the Christ, neither Elijah, neither the prophet?

So they asked him,“ Why then do you baptize if you aren’t the Messiah, or Elijah, or the Prophet?”

And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?

So they asked John,“ Why then are you baptizing if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”

They asked him,“ Why then do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?”

我要從他們的兄弟中間，給他們興起一位先知，像你一樣；我要把我的話放在他口裡，他必把我吩咐他們的一切話都對他們說。

“耶和華你的神要從你中間，就是從你的眾兄弟中間，給你興起一位先知來，像我一樣；你們要聽從他。

約翰並不否認，坦白地承認說：“我不是基督。”他們又問：“那麼你是誰？是以利亞嗎？”他說：“我不是。”“是那位先知嗎？”他回答：“不是。”於是他們再問：“你是誰？好讓我們回覆派我們來的人。你說你自己是誰？”

耶穌進了聖殿，正在教導人的時候，祭司長和民間的長老前來問他：“你憑甚麼權柄作這些事？誰給你這權柄？”

“為你的同胞和你的聖城，已經定了七十個七，要結束過犯，終止罪惡，遮蓋罪孽，引進永義，封住異象和預言，並且膏抹至聖所（“至聖所”或譯：“至聖者”）。你要知道，也要明白，從發出命令恢復和重建耶路撒冷，直到受膏君的時候，必有七個七；又有六十二個七（“必有七個七；又有六十二個七”或譯：“必有七個七和六十二個七”），耶路撒冷連廣場和濠溝，都必重新建造起來；那是一段困苦的時期。六十二個七以後，受膏者必被剪除，一無所有（“一無所有”或譯：“不再存在”）；那將要來的領袖的人民必毀滅這城和聖所。結局必像洪水而來；必有爭戰直到末了；荒涼的事已經定了。

“我們嚴厲地吩咐過你們，不准再奉這名教導。看，你們卻把你們的道理傳遍了耶路撒冷，想要把流這人的血的責任推到我們身上。”

第二天，猶太人的官長、長老、經學家，都聚集在耶路撒冷，還有大祭司亞那和該亞法、約翰、亞歷山大，以及大祭司的家人，所有的人都在那裡。他們叫使徒都站在當中，查問說：“你們憑甚麼能力，奉誰的名作這事？”
