The LORD said to me,“ I have made you like a metal assayer to test my people like ore. You are to observe them and evaluate how they behave.”

耶和华对我说：“我派你考验我的子民，就像冶炼金属一样，好察验他们的行为。

“我使你在我子民中作鉴辨和试验的（按照《马索拉文本》，“试验的”作“高台”;现参照《七十士译本》翻译），好让你查察、鉴别他们的行径。”

『我使你在我的人民中做試驗人的、做堡壘，使你曉得試驗他們所行的路。

主曰、我已立爾在我民中、為試者、為保障、使爾察知其途、

耶和華告先知曰、我使爾試民、同於煉金、置爾於戍樓、知民所行。

主諭先知曰、我使爾於我民中、如驗金者、如驗金者或作如戍樓如保障使爾考察而知其道途、

“ I have made you a tester of metals and my people the ore, that you may observe and test their ways.

The Lord says to me,“ I have made you like one who tests metals. My people are the ore. I want you to watch them and test the way they live.

“ I have made you a tester of metals among my people, that you may know and test their ways.

“ Jeremiah, I have made you a tester of metals, that you may determine the quality of my people.

I have appointed you to be an assayer among my people— a refiner— so you may know and assay their way of life.

“ I have made you an assayer and an examiner among My people, So that you may know and put their way to the test.”

“ I have set you as an assayer and a fortress among My people, That you may know and test their way.

I have made thee a trier and a fortress among my people; that thou mayest know and try their way.

I have appointed you to be an assayer among My people— a refiner— so you may know and assay their way of life.

I have set thee[ for] a tower[ and] a fortress among my people, that thou mayest know and try their way.

“ I have made you a tester of metals and a fortress among my people, that you may know and try their way.

I, the LORD, hereby promise to make you as strong as a fortified city, an iron pillar, and a bronze wall. You will be able to stand up against all who live in the land, including the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests and all the people of the land.

I will make you as strong as a wall to these people, a fortified wall of bronze. They will attack you, but they will not be able to overcome you. For I will be with you to rescue you and deliver you,” says the LORD.

“ Are you willing to pronounce judgment? Are you willing to pronounce judgment, son of man? Then confront them with the abominable practices of their fathers,

“ I have made your face adamant to match their faces, and your forehead hard to match their foreheads.I have made your forehead harder than flint– like diamond! Do not fear them or be terrified of the looks they give you, for they are a rebellious house.”And he said to me,“ Son of man, take all my words that I speak to you to heart and listen carefully.

“ As for you, son of man, are you willing to pronounce judgment, are you willing to pronounce judgment on the bloody city? Then confront her with all her abominable deeds!

Therefore the LORD who rules over all says,“ I will now purify them in the fires of affliction and test them. The wickedness of my dear people has left me no choice. What else can I do?
