A nation from the north will attack her and lay waste her land. No one will live in it; both people and animals will flee away.

Your mother shall be sore confounded; she that bare you shall be ashamed: behold, the hindermost of the nations[ shall be] a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.Because of the wrath of the LORD it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be wholly desolate: every one that goeth by Babylon shall be astonished, and hiss at all her plagues.

Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: howl for her; take balm for her pain, if so be she may be healed.We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed: forsake her, and let us go every one into his own country: for her judgment reacheth unto heaven, and is lifted up[ even] to the skies.

For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I[ am] the LORD.

Then the heaven and the earth, and all that[ is] therein, shall sing for Babylon: for the spoilers shall come unto her from the north, saith the LORD.

For I will rise up against them, saith the LORD of hosts, and cut off from Babylon the name, and remnant, and son, and nephew, saith the LORD.I will also make it a possession for the bittern, and pools of water: and I will sweep it with the besom of destruction, saith the LORD of hosts.The LORD of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed,[ so] shall it stand:

And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast[ it] into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft[ he be], shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee;And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.

They come from a far country, from the end of heaven,[ even] the LORD, and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land.Howl ye; for the day of the LORD[ is] at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man’s heart shall melt:And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces[ shall be as] flames.Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.

And Babylon shall become heaps, a dwellingplace for dragons, an astonishment, and an hissing, without an inhabitant.They shall roar together like lions: they shall yell as lions’ whelps.In their heat I will make their feasts, and I will make them drunken, that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the LORD.I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with he goats.How is Sheshach taken! and how is the praise of the whole earth surprised! how is Babylon become an astonishment among the nations!The sea is come up upon Babylon: she is covered with the multitude of the waves thereof.Her cities are a desolation, a dry land, and a wilderness, a land wherein no man dwelleth, neither doth[ any] son of man pass thereby.And I will punish Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he hath swallowed up: and the nations shall not flow together any more unto him: yea, the wall of Babylon shall fall.

Behold, I[ am] against thee, O destroying mountain, saith the LORD, which destroyest all the earth: and I will stretch out mine hand upon thee, and roll thee down from the rocks, and will make thee a burnt mountain.And they shall not take of thee a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations; but thou shalt be desolate for ever, saith the LORD.Set ye up a standard in the land, blow the trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations against her, call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashchenaz; appoint a captain against her; cause the horses to come up as the rough caterpillers.

And I will smite the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast: they shall die of a great pestilence.

Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.
