LORD, I know you look for faithfulness. But even when you punish these people, they feel no remorse. Even when you nearly destroy them, they refuse to be corrected. They have become as hardheaded as a rock. They refuse to change their ways.

For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. You have done a foolish thing, and from now on you will be at war.” (niv)

Woe to the city of oppressors, rebellious and defiled!She obeys no one, she accepts no correction. She does not trust in the Lord, she does not draw near to her God. (niv)

The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord is on his heavenly throne. He observes everyone on earth; his eyes examine them.The Lord examines the righteous, but the wicked, those who love violence, he hates with a passion.On the wicked he will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot.For the Lord is righteous, he loves justice; the upright will see his face. “ But they refused to pay attention; stubbornly they turned their backs and covered their ears.They made their hearts as hard as flint and would not listen to the law or to the words that the Lord Almighty had sent by his Spirit through the earlier prophets. Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. The wicked put up a bold front, but the upright give thought to their ways. (niv)

But they did not listen to me or pay attention. They were stiff-necked and did more evil than their ancestors.’ (niv)

For I knew how stubborn you were; your neck muscles were iron, your forehead was bronze. (niv)

Though you grind a fool in a mortar, grinding them like grain with a pestle, you will not remove their folly from them. (niv)

In his time of trouble King Ahaz became even more unfaithful to the Lord. (niv)

Why should you be beaten anymore? Why do you persist in rebellion? Your whole head is injured, your whole heart afflicted.From the sole of your foot to the top of your head there is no soundness— only wounds and welts and open sores, not cleansed or bandaged or soothed with olive oil. (niv)

Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live! (niv)

Now we know that God’s judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. (niv)

The eyes of the Lord keep watch over knowledge, but he frustrates the words of the unfaithful. (niv)
