背道的民哪，你们为何因有山谷，就是水流的山谷夸张呢？为何倚靠财宝说：‘谁能来到我们这里呢？’

背道的民哪，你为何因有山谷，因有水流的山谷夸耀呢？为何倚靠自己的财宝，说：“谁能来到我们这里呢？”

背叛的人民啊，你们为肥沃的山谷而感到自豪吗？你们依仗财富以为无人敢来侵犯。”

背道的居民（“居民”原文作“女子”）哪！你们为什么因有山谷，就是你们那肥沃的山谷而夸口呢？你们十分倚靠自己的财宝，说：‘有谁敢来攻击我们呢？’

轉離正道的人哪，你倚靠你自己的財寶，說：「誰能來攻擊我呢？」為甚麼因有山谷、就是你那有水流着的山谷、而誇口呢？

背逆之女歟、奚為誇爾流水之谷、爾恃財寶曰、誰克至我、

違逆之女、居於膏腴之谷、詡詡然以為已得貨財、無人犯我四境、然爾不可矜誇。

Why do you boast of your valleys, boast of your valleys so fruitful? Unfaithful Daughter Ammon, you trust in your riches and say,‘ Who will attack me?’

Why do you brag about your valleys? You brag that they produce so many crops. Ammon, you are an unfaithful country. You trust in your riches. You say,‘ Who will attack me?’

You are proud of your fertile valleys, but they will soon be ruined. You trusted in your wealth, you rebellious daughter, and thought no one could ever harm you.

Why do you boast about your valleys, your flowing valley, you faithless daughter— you who trust in your treasures and say,“ Who can attack me?”

How you boast about the valleys! Your valley is flowing away, You backsliding daughter Who trusts in her treasures, saying,‘ Who can come against me?’

Why do you boast in the valleys, Your flowing valley, O backsliding daughter? Who trusted in her treasures, saying,‘ Who will come against me?’

Wherefore gloriest thou in the valleys, thy flowing valley, O backsliding daughter? that trusted in her treasures, saying, Who shall come unto me?

Why do you brag about your valleys, your flowing valley, you faithless daughter? You who trust in your treasures and boast,“ Who can attack me?”

Wherefore gloriest thou in the valleys, thy flowing valley, O backsliding daughter? that trusted in her treasures,[ saying], Who shall come unto me?

Why do you brag about your great power? Your power is ebbing away, you rebellious people of Ammon, who trust in your riches and say,‘ Who would dare to attack us?’

Why do you boast in the valleys, your flowing valley, backsliding daughter? You trusted in her treasures, saying,‘ Who will come to me?’

As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.

“ Behold, I am against you, O inhabitant of the valley, O rock of the plain, declares the Lord; you who say,‘ Who shall come down against us, or who shall enter our habitations?’

Thus says the Lord:“ Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches,

those who trust in their wealth and boast of the abundance of their riches?

Return, O faithless children, declares the Lord; for I am your master; I will take you, one from a city and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion.

Put no trust in extortion; set no vain hopes on robbery; if riches increase, set not your heart on them.

For, because you trusted in your works and your treasures, you also shall be taken; and Chemosh shall go into exile with his priests and his officials.

“ See the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches and sought refuge in his own destruction!”

by your wisdom and your understanding you have made wealth for yourself, and have gathered gold and silver into your treasuries;by your great wisdom in your trade you have increased your wealth, and your heart has become proud in your wealth—therefore thus says the Lord God: Because you make your heart like the heart of a god,therefore, behold, I will bring foreigners upon you, the most ruthless of the nations; and they shall draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom and defile your splendor.

As she glorified herself and lived in luxury, so give her a like measure of torment and mourning, since in her heart she says,‘ I sit as a queen, I am no widow, and mourning I shall never see.’

The horror you inspire has deceived you, and the pride of your heart, you who live in the clefts of the rock, who hold the height of the hill. Though you make your nest as high as the eagle’s, I will bring you down from there, declares the Lord.

You said,“ I shall be mistress forever,” so that you did not lay these things to heart or remember their end.Now therefore hear this, you lover of pleasures, who sit securely, who say in your heart,“ I am, and there is no one besides me; I shall not sit as a widow or know the loss of children”:

But they did not obey or incline their ear, but walked in their own counsels and the stubbornness of their evil hearts, and went backward and not forward.

A rich man’s wealth is his strong city; the poverty of the poor is their ruin.

Though you soar aloft like the eagle, though your nest is set among the stars, from there I will bring you down, declares the Lord.If thieves came to you, if plunderers came by night— how you have been destroyed!— would they not steal only enough for themselves? If grape gatherers came to you, would they not leave gleanings?

Ah, the proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim, and the fading flower of its glorious beauty, which is on the head of the rich valley of those overcome with wine!Behold, the Lord has one who is mighty and strong; like a storm of hail, a destroying tempest, like a storm of mighty, overflowing waters, he casts down to the earth with his hand.The proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim will be trodden underfoot;and the fading flower of its glorious beauty, which is on the head of the rich valley, will be like a first-ripe fig before the summer: when someone sees it, he swallows it as soon as it is in his hand.

Like a stubborn heifer, Israel is stubborn; can the Lord now feed them like a lamb in a broad pasture?
