彼以金募壯士、俱若肥牛、災害既臨、敗北而遁、不能禦敵。

The mercenaries in her ranks are like fattened calves. They too will turn and flee together, they will not stand their ground, for the day of disaster is coming upon them, the time for them to be punished.

Hired soldiers are in Egypt’s army. They are like fat calves. All of them will turn and run away. They will not hold their positions. The day of trouble is coming on them. The time for them to be punished is near.

Even her hired soldiers in her midst are like fattened calves; yes, they have turned and fled together; they did not stand, for the day of their calamity has come upon them, the time of their punishment.

Egypt’s mercenaries have become like fattened calves. They, too, will turn and run, for it is a day of great disaster for Egypt, a time of great punishment.

原來，主使亞蘭人聽見大隊人馬和戰車的聲音。他們以為以色列王雇用了赫人的諸王和埃及人的諸王來攻營，

可是，我看見的是什麼呢？他們驚慌後退，勇士敗逃，不敢回頭，驚恐不安。這是耶和華說的。

我子民遭難的日子，你不該闖進他們的城；他們遭難的日子，你不該幸災樂禍；他們遭難的日子，你不該趁火打劫；

但耶和華嗤笑邪惡人，因為祂知道他們末日將臨。

以色列人受懲罰的日子近了，遭報應的時候到了！這點你們要知道。你們罪惡深重，充滿憎恨，以致你們說：「先知是傻瓜，被靈感動的人是瘋子。」

你們要殺掉她所有的士兵，把他們全部屠殺。他們大禍臨頭了，懲罰他們的日子到了。

亞捫人知道得罪了大衛，便派人到伯·利合和瑣巴招募了兩萬名亞蘭步兵、瑪迦王的一千人和一萬二千名陀伯人。

你們躺在象牙床上，靠在臥榻上，你們吃養在圈裡的肥嫩牛羊。

他們當中最好的不過是蒺藜，最正直的也不過是荊棘籬笆。你們的守望者所說的日子，就是你們受懲罰的日子已經來到。你們必驚慌失措。

粗茶淡飯但彼此相愛，勝過美酒佳餚卻互相憎恨。

我要在敵人面前驅散他們，就像東風吹散塵土一樣。在他們遭難的時候，我必以背相向，不理睬他們。」

在懲罰的日子，當災禍從遠方臨到你們頭上時，你們怎麼辦？你們能跑到誰那裡去求救呢？你們能把財物藏在哪裡呢？

戰馬奔馳吧！戰車疾駛吧！勇士啊，就是那些手拿盾牌的古實人和弗人以及箭法嫺熟的呂底亞人啊，出戰吧！

搶奪我產業的巴比倫人啊，你們歡喜快樂，像草場上歡跳的母牛犢，又像嘶鳴的公馬。

你們的勇士為何仆倒？他們無法堅立，因為耶和華擊倒了他們，使他們跌跌絆絆，紛紛倒下。他們說，『起來，我們回到同胞那裡，回到故鄉吧，好躲避敵人的刀劍。』

因為你永懷仇恨，在以色列人遭遇危難、因罪惡受盡刑罰的時候，把他們交在刀下。

「『你軍隊中的戰士有波斯人、路德人、弗人，他們在你的牆上掛起盾牌和頭盔，展示你的光彩。亞發人和你的軍隊都守衛在你的城牆上，歌瑪底人把守你的城樓，他們都在牆上掛滿盾牌，使你完美無瑕。

必有刀劍攻擊埃及，埃及必屍橫遍野，古實必痛苦不堪。敵人要擄掠埃及的財富，摧毀她的根基。古實、弗、路德、阿拉伯和利比亞以及她的其他盟友都必與她一同死於刀下。』「耶和華說，『埃及的盟友都要覆滅，埃及的傲氣必蕩然無存，從密奪到色弗尼的居民都要喪身刀下。這是主耶和華說的。
