耶利米还没有回去，护卫长说：“你可以回到沙番的孙子亚希甘的儿子基大利那里去；现在巴比伦王立他作犹大城邑的省长。你可以在他那里住在民中，不然，你看哪里合宜就可以上那里去。”于是护卫长送他粮食和礼物，释放他去了。

你们所惧怕的刀剑在埃及地必追上你们！你们所惧怕的饥荒在埃及要紧紧地跟随你们！你们必死在那里！

“我的朋友，我对你们说，那杀身体以后不能再做什么的，不要怕他们。我要指示你们当怕的是谁：当怕那杀了以后又有权柄丢在地狱里的。我实在告诉你们，正要怕他。

不要怕你们所怕的巴比伦王。’”耶和华说：“不要怕他！因为我与你们同在，要拯救你们脱离他的手。

“惟有我，是安慰你们的。你是谁？竟怕那必死的人，怕那要变如草的世人，却忘记铺张诸天、立定地基、创造你的耶和华。又因欺压者图谋毁灭要发的暴怒，整天害怕！其实那欺压者的暴怒在哪里呢？

你怕谁？因谁恐惧？竟说谎，不记念我，又不将这事放在心上。我不是许久闭口不言，你仍不怕我吗？

你们却说：“不然，我们要骑马奔走。”所以你们必然奔走；又说：“我们要骑飞快的牲口。”所以追赶你们的，也必飞快。一人叱喝，必令千人逃跑；五人叱喝，你们都必逃跑；以致剩下的，好像山顶的旗杆，冈上的大旗。

七月间，宗室以利沙玛的孙子、尼探雅的儿子以实玛利带着十个人来，杀了基大利和同他在米斯巴的犹大人与迦勒底人。
