在鄉間所有的軍官和屬他們的人，聽見巴比倫王立了亞希甘的兒子基大利作當地的省長，並將沒有擄到巴比倫的男人、婦女、孩童和當地極窮的人全交給他，於是尼探雅的兒子以實瑪利，加利亞的兩個兒子約哈難和約拿單，單戶篾的兒子西萊雅，並尼陀法人以斐的眾子，瑪迦人的兒子耶撒尼亞，和屬他們的人，都來到米斯巴的基大利那裏。

何沙雅的兒子亞撒利雅和加利亞的兒子約哈難，以及所有狂傲的人，就對耶利米說：「你說謊！耶和華－我們的上帝並沒有差遣你說：『你們不可進入埃及，在那裏寄居。』這是尼利亞的兒子巴錄挑唆你害我們，要把我們交在迦勒底人手中，使我們被殺或被擄到巴比倫去。」加利亞的兒子約哈難和所有的軍官、百姓，都不肯聽從耶和華的話留在猶大地。加利亞的兒子約哈難和所有的軍官卻將倖存的猶大人，就是從被趕到的各國回來，在猶大地寄居的男人、婦女、孩童和眾公主，並尼布撒拉旦護衛長留在沙番的孫子，亞希甘的兒子基大利那裏的眾人，與耶利米先知，以及尼利亞的兒子巴錄，

願耶和華－你的上帝指示我們當走的路，當做的事。」

眾軍官和加利亞的兒子約哈難，並何沙雅的兒子耶撒尼亞以及眾百姓，從最小的到最大的都進前來，

尼探雅的兒子以實瑪利和同他來的那十個人起來，用刀擊殺沙番的孫子，亞希甘的兒子基大利，就是巴比倫王所立為當地省長的，把他殺死。以實瑪利把所有在米斯巴與基大利一起的猶大人，以及他們在那裏所遇見的迦勒底人和士兵都殺了。

他們到了城中，尼探雅的兒子以實瑪利和與他一起的人就把他們殺了，丟在坑裏。
